Don’t make a mad dash for your honeymoon on your wedding day.

If planning a wedding can be stressful, the day of a wedding can be even more nerve wrecking. Yes, it is perhaps the most important day of your life, but it is also the result of months of meticulous planning and nights spent fearing you’ll trip down the aisle. Do yourself a favor and take a couple of days, if not weeks, to decompress before whisking away to an exotic island. Also, if loved ones have come from out of town and are planning to stay until the day after the wedding, spending some extra quality time with them is a great way to say thank you.

Do spend a little extra on hotels and travel.

First things first: don’t spend all your money or go into debt to fund your honeymoon. You don’t need to fly first class or stay at a five-star hotel to have an unforgettable experience. But if you’re traveling somewhere far away, sometimes spending even an extra $75 can be the difference between a flight with 4 layovers and none. Also, consider spending your last night or two in a hotel or B&B that is one step above what you were staying in before. It’s always fun to splurge within reason!

Do distinguish between travelling and vacationing before booking your honeymoon.

For the uninformed: travelling involves lots of moving around, sightseeing and following some kind of a schedule. In short, travelling feels a lot like maximizing your chances to see incredible museums, eating delicious food and getting the most out of your trip. There’s a very good chance that you and your husband will simply prefer to go vacationing – that is, relax on a beach in the middle of nowhere for a week. And that’s totally okay! Just be honest with yourselves about what you want and set realistic goals for your trip. That way, you’ll both be in line with your expectations and prepare yourselves to have the time of your life!
