Enthusiastic Obama supporters are creating silver jewelry, pendants, and earrings featuring the image and logo of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama.
Texas-based sculptor Jonas Perkins was so inspired by Obama that he decided to go beyond the usual show of campaign support – posters, telephone calls, door-to-door canvassing -- by designing silver Obama earrings.
Some of his earrings feature Obama`s logo, with the slogan "Yes We Can" dangling below it. Others contain the words "Obama" or both "Barack" and "Obama" dangling from the logo. All of Perkins` Obama-inspired earrings are crafted from sterling silver.
Perkins hasn`t completely left behind his background as a sculptor: a limited-edition bronze bust of Obama is featured on his website.
Other artists have also embraced the campaign jewelry trend. River Wolfe Art Jewelry creates polymer clay pendants, bracelets, and earrings featuring Obama`s logo. The bracelets feature a mix of clay beads and sterling silver letter beads, spelling out Obama`s slogans of hope and peace. Some of the clay pendants are set in silver, and feature Barack Obama`s image. All proceeds go to the Obama campaign.
Supporters of Barack Obama`s rival, Republican presidential nominee John McCain, will also find candidate jewelry, but to a lesser extent: most designs feature the traditional Republican mascot, the elephant, rather than McCain`s image or logo. Aspen Designs` earrings feature the elephant in their various designs, including dangle and hoop earrings.
So, whatever your political preference, you`re sure to find trendy jewelry that will allow you to display your support in a unique way. But hurry – Election Day is almost here!
