Jewelry thieves were robbed by a second group of thieves as they tried to make off with their loot.  The two original robbers, ages 31 and 40, held up the jewelry store on the 1100 block W. Historic Mitchell St. on Wednesday morning.

According to Lt. Thomas Welch, a second group of men – ages 22 and 27-- confronted the robbers as they left the Milwaukee jewelry store.  A fight broke out, and both groups got into their vehicles.  A police chase ensued.

When Milwaukee police offers pulled over the vehicles, they arrested all four men, all of whom were carrying Illinois identification.  In a search of the vehicles, however, police did not recover jewelry or money.  Lt. Welch stated that the police are searching for additional suspects, and that an investigation has been launched as to the relationship between the two groups of jewelry thieves.

Police have yet to release an estimate of how much money and jewelry was stolen.
