7.97 carat diamond found in kimberlites in Bahia, Brazil

Vaaldiam Resources Ltd. unearthed a huge 7.97 carat diamond during digging at the Brauna 8 kimberlite dike. That site is located on the company`s 100% owned Brauna project in Bahia, Brazil.

The diamond is by far the biggest discovered in the Brauna kimberlites by Vaaldiam. This means it is likely there are large, high value diamonds there. The diamond that was found is a high quality white octahedral diamond with no inclusions visible.

Forty-one diamonds with a weight of 10.94 carats were unearthed during the processing of 13.78 tons of earth. This nets a recovered grade of 79.39 carats per 100 tons. The average size of the diamonds found was .27 carats, and the five largest diamonds found weighed 7.97, .57, .49, .37 and .25.

The firm`s president stated that he was encouraged by the excellent color, clarity and shape of the diamonds they recovered. This indicates, he said, an excellent potential for gem quality, high value diamonds to be found on a regular basis.
