Mon, April 24 2006, 09:19 EST
I do! The Schmidtsdrift mine in South Africa has produced a 235 carat diamond. The stone is cape yellow in color, octahedron shaped and is reported to be of very good quality. "This is a substantial find as diamonds of this size are a very rare occurrence," says Charles Mostert, Chief Executive Officer of Nare Diamonds Limited, who recovered the stone.Schmidtsdrift mine went online for production in March of 2006. The mine is located in the Northern Cape Province approximately 80 km northwest of Kimberly. To date, Schmidtsdrift has produced 33,679 carats and the average stone size has been 1.14 carats. The outlook for this mine is very good.
