DIANOR RESOURCES and WEMINDJI EXPLORATION have uncovered very rare purple diamonds from their Ekomiak V property in the James Bay, Quebec region.

Workers from the firms found 649 diamonds, including nine purple diamonds, from 18 surface rock samples that were thought to be 2.7 billion years old.

Natural, fancy-colored diamonds are rare and expensive. Purple is one of the rarest colors.

The biggest purple diamond is 335 x 379 x 225 microns. All of the colored stones came from samples with high diamond counts. The biggest white diamond was one measure 1.06 x .98 x .56 mm.
