India strives for increased efforts against ‘conflict diamonds`

Efforts to rid the world of "conflict diamonds," which sometimes fun bloody revolutionary movements in some nations, is being slowed by fake certificates, the government of India stated in New Delhi recently.

The problem is that some conflict diamond groups are obtaining artificial certificates that state they adhere to the Kimberly Process. This is a United Nations initiative that tries to ensure that only diamonds that are sold by legitimate parties are allowed to enter the global market.

India and other members of the Kimberly Process realize that they must solve to problem of these fake certificates, as it undermines what the Process is trying to achieve.


India`s diamond industry was one of the industry`s big success stories in 2007, which had registered diamond exports totaling $13 billion.
