John Teeling, chairman and founder of African Diamonds, a Dublin based diamond exploration company, is calling the discovery in Botswana "the making of our company." They are teaming up with DeBeers for production and say that the diamond discovery could be worth as much as $360 million. The Botswana mine has the potential to become one of the world`s top diamond mines and production may begin as early as 2008. African Diamonds has a 49 percent stake in the Botswana venture with DeBeers holding the remainder. Upon completion of the feasibility study, drilling may begin and African Diamonds` share will fall to 30 percent.
