Everyone from your hairdresser to your mother will have something to say about your love life and relationships. Who should you date? How long should you date before getting engaged? What makes a good marriage? Everyone seems to have the answers.

Relationships and dating are two of those subjects that have endless myths surrounding them. But there are so many lies and legends about dating that need to be exposed!  

Here are three relationship myths that are not only untrue, but harmful for your dating life:

1) Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
Absence may make the heart grow fonder for about a week, but it’s all downhill from there. There is nothing worse for two hearts than absence and long distance. Not being able to see your love for a significant period of time will undoubtedly mess with your relationship. It’s impossible to rely on or trust a partner you never see! Absence makes hearts bitter, sad and slowly eats away at relationships. So forget the cliché adage, it’s just not true!

2) Actions speak louder than words.
Sure actions are great indications of feelings and commitment, but they don’t necessarily speak louder than words; words are pretty darn important too! There is no such thing as a good relationship built solely on actions. It is critical that lovers tell each other how they feel in some form of spoken word. Write a poem, whisper in your love’s ear, sing a song— do something to express your feelings in words!

3) You can't teach an old dog new tricks.
Who spread this rumor? It is absolutely false! People (and animals) can learn new tricks and habits at any age. Is it really hard to make lifestyle and behavioral changes? Yes. Is it a challenge? Yes. Is it achievable? Yes, Yes, Yes! With the right support and mindset, anything is possible! You’re never too old to learn new things and neither is your love.
