Los Angeles, California  --  Hosted by Vanessa Williams, the 2009 Daytime Emmy Awards was its usual showcase of hairstyle, fashion, and diamond jewelry trends.  As if to say goodbye to famed soap opera "Guiding Light", which is going off the air after 72 years, the stars turned out in their finest.

Among the fashion trends spotted were backless dresses, one-shouldered gowns, and tousled hair, and diamond dress details.  Foremost in all of these categories was actress Jennie Garth, whose stunning orange-red gown featured a diamond brooch at the waist.  Her diamond drop earrings were easily visible through her carefully-disheveled hair.

Winner of the `Outstanding Talk Show Entertainment` category Rachael Ray, who took home her second Emmy, wore a cocktail-length purple gown with a diamond-encrusted halter.  Although Ellen DeGeneres was blocked from her predicted five-peat by a win by the ladies of "The View", she and Portia DiRossi made an impressive appearance, with DiRossi still glowing as she showed off the marquise-cut diamond engagement ring surrounded with pink diamonds, a gift from DeGeneres.

Tyra Banks, who won for `Outstanding Talk Show Informative`, wore a one-shoulder gown and her own hair, with no extensions.  Lori Loughlin also wore a one-shoulder gown with diamonds embellishing both her left hip and right shoulder.

Judge Cristina Perez, whose show "Cristina`s Court" won the Emmy for `Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program`, walked the red carpet looking glamorous and decidedly un-judge-like in a light yellow, ruched, strapless gown, a large diamond pendant, diamond earrings, and her blond locks tousled and sprayed high.

`Outstanding Performer in a Children`s Series` went to Kevin Clash as Elmo on Sesame Street.  This year`s lifetime achievement award also went to Sesame Street, with actress Sandra Oh bestowing the honors to America`s favorite show for kids.

This year`s Emmys were not only relocated to the Orpheum Theatre, but they were also, for the first time, not on network television.  Shown on the CW, this marks the first time that the show has not aired on one of the Big Three.  It was, nonetheless, a well-planned show, and Vanessa Williams had the audience both cheering and laughing as she performed "Can`t Take My Eyes off of You" from the Broadway musical "Jersey Boys", which she intertwined with comic scenes from soap operas and game shows.  She later sang again with "Dancing with the Stars" runner-up Gilles Marini.

It was a first for the Orpheum and the CW, and a dignified last for "Guiding Light", and everything that the Daytime Emmys should be.
