Well, we certainly weren’t expecting this!
Jason Alexander, Britney Spears' sort-of ex-husband, is "telling all" about the duo’s incredibly short-lived marriage. Wait a second— is a marriage even a marriage if it lasts for 55 hours?
Spears’ childhood sweetheart opened up to ABC's 20/20 about their spontaneous wedding and love affair.
“I was in love with her. … I feel like she felt the same way,” Alexander said.
Alexander said that he was truly in love with the superstar and that it was not his decision to end the marriage.
Although the annulment stated that Spears “lacked understanding of her actions, to the extent that she was incapable of agreeing to the marriage,” Alexander said that Spears was in fact in love and that it was her team that insisted she break off the marriage.
“They didn’t want to hear anything … and [Spears] came back, and it ended. That was pretty wild,” Alexander said of Spears’ team’s reaction to her engagement.
Following the annulment, Spears claimed that her Vegas marriage was just fun and games, never intended to be taken seriously.
“It was me being silly, being rebellious,” Spears said in an interview.
How does Alexander feel about this claim?
“Bull***t. That was probably the hardest part about it. I had obviously got my feelings involved,” he said.
And what did he learn from the experience?
“Nice guys finish last. Look out for yourself… If you are going to really get involved into a relationship with a celebrity and you are just an average Joe, make sure you are thinking business!”
Last year Alexander opened up about Britney’s sudden engagement to manager Jason Trawick.
“I know everyone wants me to be happy about this, but I am not. I think it's fake and I think people are afraid to say it.
“They look like they are going through the motions. It seems like an answer to the court thing. Sort of a nice way to sew it all up she marries her handler,” he said.
Alexander’s opinion, however, clearly doesn’t matter. Spears will nevertheless walk down the aisle sometime next year. Oh the drama….it never ends!
