Just two weeks after announcing his divorce, Russell Brand is speaking out. The British comedian opened up about his life post wife-of 14 months, Katy Perry, as well as his upcoming TV show, Strangely Uplifting.
Much to our surprise, Brand seems to be doing just fine. In an interview with television writers in Pasadena, Calif., the 36-year-old entertainer said that he was doing “Quite well, thank you.”
Brand continued, “Are you asking because of recent events? You are making the mistake of seeing time as linear. The brilliant American author Kurt Vonnegut, he'll tell you that if you imagine reality as experienced simultaneously, events become redundant."
When asked if he was happy (whatever that overused, trite word means!), Brand replied with a smile, "Yes, I am." Sounds like he’s pretty cool and collected considering the recent events.
Strangely Uplifting will involve candid and humorous discussions of current events, and is due to debut in April this year. Brand’s show, which is due to debut in April, will include slices of his personal life. It’s main goal of course is to entertain and make people laugh.
"There will be inevitable biographical elements, because you can't speak from anyone's perspective but your own. Unless you bizarrely adapt some sort of avatar," shared Brand. "It's like I can't speak from the perspective of Angelica Huston. People would think I lack the appropriate authority if I said, 'Oh, I had a tumultuous relationship with Jack [Nicholson, Angelica's former beau] and my father [late director John Huston].' I am not qualified."
"So there will inevitable be my experiences, I will speak from own my perspective. I live in this extraordinary country of yours. I'm not from here. It's like the perspective of an alien trying to understand this peculiar time and this peculiar country. What I think, it's a bit like Mork and Mindy,” he further explained.
Brand and Perry first met at an MTV Music Awards party in 2009. They hit it off immediately and were engaged a mere four months later. The duo married in October in an over-the top, Perry-style Hindu ceremony. Brand gave Perry a $75,000 wedding ring with diamonds set in darkened platinum.
