Meryl Streep is not only an Oscar-winning actress, but also a wedding crasher! Huh?!
This weekend, the Devil Wears Prada star stopped by Freya and Graham McAnally’s wedding at Manchester Town Hall dressed as Margaret Thatcher. Freya, 31, and Graham, 33, were exchanging vows at the historic hall on the same day that Streep and crew were filming scenes for The Iron Lady, the upcoming documentary about UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
“It was all very surreal - Meryl Streep was standing there dressed as Margaret Thatcher. It almost feels like it didn't happen. I thought it was amazing, the last thing you expect is an A-List celebrity at your wedding,” the surprised bride said.
The cast and crew surprised the bride and groom, attending the ceremony and bringing gifts. As the groom presented the bride with a wedding ring, Streep and other cast members including, Jim Broadbent (who plays Denis, Thatcher's husband) and Richard E Grant (plays Michael Heseltine) looked on. The cast gave the couple a glass vase and a copy of the film's call sheet for the day, flowers and of course, celebratory champagne. Streep also gave them two autographed pictures with warm wishes and messages of congratulations.
Freya and Graham had supposedly been warned that filming would take place on their special day; Manchester Town Hall was used for its interior design, which looks somewhat like the inside of the Houses of Parliament.
Graham, who said that at first he was worried the movie shoot might overshadow his their wedding, was pleasantly surprised.
“It turned out to be to our advantage as there were more lights around and the town hall had been given an extra clean for the filming,” the groom said. “They went above and beyond what they had to - it was lovely.'”
“We can't praise the town hall or the film cast and crew enough they completely respected our wedding,” Freya chimed in.
Congratulations to the happy couple! Wishing you a lifetime of love and blessings!
