Beatles legend Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell, who tied the knot on October 9, are enjoying their honeymoon in the West Indies island paradise of Mustique. The island has been a getaway spot for the rich and famous since the 1960s.
Prior to the honeymoon, McCartney had given Shevell a stunning circa-1925 Cartier engagement ring, worth an estimated $650,000 (Shevell is a fan of vintage style rings), and the couple exchanged wedding rings at their small ceremony in London. Shevell's ring is a platinum, 5-plus-carat, flawless diamond eternity band in the Art Deco style which compliments, but does not overshadow, her engagement ring.
Sources say McCartney, 69, and Shevell, 51, arrived around Friday October 14 and are staying at a six-bedroom luxury villa owned by Mick Jagger of the Rolling Stones. The villa has amazing waterfront views, a hot tub, a luxurious swimming pool, a tennis court, and a private chef. The couple chose the papparazzi-free island for the privacy it affords, as much as for its scenic beauty.
This is McCartney’s third honeymoon. His first was spent with first wife Linda in New York (Linda passed away in 1998), and his second at a five-star resort in the Seychelles with second wife Heather Mills (Mills received almost $49 million in a bitter divorce settlement). Shevell is the only one of McCartney’s wives, past or present, who is an heiress who comes from an extremely wealthy background—her father runs a $345 million haulage firm. McCartney is Shevell's second husband.
Despite their enormous wealth, McCartney and Shevell had a very low-key ceremony at a Register Office in London in which only about 30 close friends and family members attended. Both Shevell and McCartney wore outfits created by McCartney’s famous fashion designer daughter, Stella McCartney.
