Kim Kardashian, 31, has pocket and heart full of gold. The reality star confirmed that she would be donating the gifts from her 72-day marriage to charity. (What about her $2 million dollar engagement ring?!) Kardashian, who announced her split from NBA player Kris Humphries earlier this week, wrote on her personal blog that she would give "the money for all the gifts to the Dream Foundation."
But is donating the gifts from her elaborate wedding appropriate? Or is it a tactless publicity stunt to make her look generous in light of the vicious rumors surrounding her divorce?
"The gifts should be returned to the givers if the wedding is dissolved within a short timeframe like hers was," Lizzie Post, etiquette expert and published author, told PEOPLE magazine. "I don't want to come across as saying that charity wouldn't be a great way to handle it. It's just that in that case, you're making a charitable donation on someone else's behalf under your name."
"Even if she donates ... in the name of the sender, that's inappropriate, too, because then you're making a donation and you don't know how the person feels about the charity," Post added.
Kardashian, however, may still return some of the gifts. "They'll figure it out sometime soon…They genuinely feel horrible," a close friend of the couple revealed.
Post made sure to clarify that she wasn’t judging Kardashian as a person. The 29 year old etiquette guru went on to say, “People close to Kim should support her at this time and not judge her. This is something really difficult to go through."
What would you do if you were Kim Kardashain? Would you donate your gifts to charity or return them to your guests?
