It’s been five years since Britney Spears and Kevin Federline’s messy divorce. But just last week, Spears shared some great news. After months of dating, Spears and former manager Jason Trawick became engaged! The pop-star beamed as she flaunted her three-carat Neil Lane engagement ring. The question is: how does Spears’ ex-husband, feel about her recent engagement?

"She's doing really well ... [The engagement] is a good step in the right direction. I'm totally happy for her," Federline told Australia's TV Week magazine. 

"She's happy…in a good place," the former backup dancer and father of Spears’ two children, Preston, 6, and Jayden, 5, added.

Federline also admitted that it was difficult for him to watch Spears struggle a few years back. He said it broke his "heart to pieces" to watch Spears publically breakdown and is so happy that the dramatic, depressing stage" of both their lives is done.

"It was tough," the father of five said. "I'm so glad it's over and I get to leave it behind."

And what does Federline think about Jason Trawick, Spears’ future husband and step-father of his children?
"I think he's a great guy. The kids speak highly of him. Her family loves him," said Federline.

Federline also shared that his and Britney’s sons are doing wonderfully in school and that Trawick is a welcome addition to the family.

It’s so great to hear that Federline and Spears are on good terms. The duo, who first met at Joseph's Café in Hollywood, California, has been through a lot since their divorce in 2006. 

Alas, there's nothing like new love to heal wounds from the past!
