It’s been a year since Kate Middleton and Prince William of Wales became engaged! On Wednesday, Nov. 16 2010, after dating for eight years, on Wednesday, Nov. 16 2010, William gave Kate his late mother’s 18-carat white gold blue sapphire engagement ring and asked for her hand in marriage. How time flies!
William and Kate announced their engagement in an official statement which read: The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince William to Miss Catherine Middleton. The wedding will take place in the Spring or Summer of 2011, in London. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course."
The loving couple gave their first joint interview Tom Bradby of ITV News and shared the details of their romantic proposal, their friendship in university as well as their feelings on the late Princess Diana.
“We had a little private time away together with some friends and I just decided that it was the right time really. We had been talking about marriage for a while so it wasn't a massively big surprise. I took her up somewhere nice in Kenya and I proposed,” William told Bradby.
“It was very romantic. There's a true romantic in there,” Kate added.
When asked about her feelings on Princess Diana, Kate replied: “Obviously I would have loved to have met her and she's obviously an inspirational woman to look up to. Obviously to this day and going forward and things, you know it is a wonderful
Ever since the announcement, Kate’s life has not been the same. The Berkshire brunette quickly became a world-wide icon—her every move and outfit documented by the press.
So where is the newlywed couple today, on year later? Kate, now The Duchess of Cambridge, is in London, focusing on her charity work and social responsibilities. She is volunteering with organizations close to her heart, at which she feels she can make a difference.
William, on the other hand, is far away in Anglesey, North Wales. Prince William is training to be a captain and main pilot in the Royal Air Force Search and Rescue Sea King helicopters.
The couple will definitely be reunited come the holiday season. They will spend their first Christmas together as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge of, along with the rest of the Royal Family, in Sandringham, the Norfolk estate.
