You know the old saying: the couple that rips-off hotels together, stays together - well, it seems to be true. Actor Randy Quaid and his wife Evi have been released from a West Texas jail after their arrest for allegedly skipping out on a $10,000 California hotel bill.
The couple, who exchanged wedding rings 20 years ago, each posted $20,000 bail late Thursday, after spending a few hours in prison.
Presidio County Sheriff Danny Dominguez said he drove Randy to a bank to obtain the bail money. The sheriff said the actor received no special treatment.
Randy, the older brother of actor Dennis Quaid, checked into the San Ysidro Ranch with Evi on June 13 of this year. The next day, the innkeeper discovered that their credit card had been declined. Much to his current regret, he allowed the couple to stay when they claimed they had another card coming. However, after a week of racking up a sizable tab, the pair split.
According to the innkeeper, he told police that the Quaids owe $10,000 and all attempts by him to collect the money have been in vain. The couple faces felony charges of burglary, defrauding an innkeeper and conspiracy in Santa Barbara, California.
Quaid won a Golden Globe Award and was nominated for an Emmy for his portrayal of President Lyndon Johnson in `LBJ: The Early Years`. He is well-known for hilarious roles in `National Lampoon's Vacation` movies and `Kingpin`.
