The investigation into the deaths of Just Married and Girl, Interrupted actress Brittany Murphy and her husband Simon Monjack just got a whole lot more intense.  And it also has to do with a mold in their home.

The power couple, who exchanged wedding rings back in 2007, died within five months of each other and ironically from the same causes (acute pneumonia and severe anemia exaggerated by use of prescription drugs.)

The Department of Public Health took on the issue of a mold in the house, which also came up during the Clueless star's death but was not deemed a contributing factor then.  The issue came up again with the death of her British screenwriter husband but Murphy's mom Sharon would not let the LA. County Coroner's Office investigate it. 

Finally, Murphy's mom has allowed the Department of Public Health into their home.

Could the mold have something to do with the pneumonia that was the cause of death for both of them?

At the time of Monjack's death Murphy's mother released this statement: "I am still in shock and mourning over the deaths of my daughter Brittany and son-in-law Simon. It is with great relief that Simon`s preliminary autopsy findings have been released, so the media speculations can stop… As I was sure of, just like my daughter Brittany there was no kind of drug overdose."

Murphy married English screenwriter, film director, and producer Monjack in a private Jewish ceremony in Los Angeles in May 2007.  She lived in the same house with Monjack and her mother.    Sudden weight loss in the early 2000s led to rumors of cocaine addiction and eating disorders, but Murphy quickly refuted the reports. 

Murphy died on December 20, 2009 as the Los Angeles Fire Department, responding to a medical request, arrived at the home she shared with Monjack and her mother.  She had collapsed in the bathroom and was pronounced dead on arrival due to cardiac arrest.

The Department of Public Health continues to wonder what the mold has to do with it, if anything at all.
