Avatar Leaving Some Viewers Depressed And Suicidal

Here`s a story you simply can`t make up: James Cameron`s new 3-D fantasy science fiction movie Avatar is leaving viewers depressed and even suicidal. The reason? Viewers cannot find meaning in their ordinarily lives on this earth after spending nearly 3 hours on the beautiful alien planet Pandora during the course of the film.

On the fan site Avatar Forums, there is a thread entitled `Ways to cope with the depression of the dream of Pandora being intangible`. The thread has received over 1,000 posts from people who cannot cope with real life after witnessing James Cameron`s spectacle. In fact, the topic has grown so popular that forum administrator Philippe Baghdassarian created a second thread for people to express their dejected feeling to others offering advice.

Here is a taste of such posts:

"I just watched avatar a few weeks ago and I'm feeling depressed and sad. It's like I want to reach out and be in Pandora. I'd do anything to be in Pandora. I've tried so hard to dream about me being on Pandora but it hasn't worked."

"Ever since I went to see 'Avatar' I have been depressed. Watching the wonderful world of Pandora and all the Na'vi made me want to be one of them. I can't stop thinking about all the things that happened in the film and all of the tears and shivers I got from it. I even contemplate suicide thinking that if I do it I will be rebirthed in a world similar to Pandora and the everything is the same as in 'Avatar.'"

"Because, at this point, there isn't pretty much anything else that can be done. Until the release of DVD/BluRay. But even that won't take away all of the depression. Because you know you can never actually go to Pandora, as it exists only in our imagination... sigh..."

"That`s all I have been doing as of late, searching the Internet for more info about `Avatar.` I guess that helps. It`s so hard I can`t force myself to think that it`s just a movie, and to get over it, that living like the Na`vi will never happen. I think I need a rebound movie."

In related news, a scene from Avatar was cut from the theatrical release that will be on the DVD version – a sex scene between the two main protagonists of the film – Jake Sully and Neytiri. Also, James Cameron has recently announced that he will be making a sequel to his blockbuster, since the film has already grossed more than a billion dollars world-wide. Will Jake and Neytiri exchange wedding rings in the sequel?... only time will tell. Let`s just hope that Avatar fans will still be around for the sequel.
