Hollywood's favorite bachelor, Mr. George Clooney, is single again. That's right, he won't be getting engaged anytime soon. The Oceans Eleven actor recently called it quits with girlfriend of two years, Elisabetta Canalis. The couple issued a statement Wednesday in London.
"We're not together anymore. It's very difficult and very personal, so we hope that our privacy is respected," they announced. A rep to Canalis added, "It is a very personal and sad matter…she will be taking some time…and then will face the press."
Clooney's breakup with the Italian actress is no surprise. Clooney, 50, and Canalis, 32, seem to have been on very different pages regarding their future. Canalis was hoping to settle down and tie the knot, while Clooney had no intention of walking down the aisle.
Earlier this year Canalis told Italian Weekly Magazine, "I could never be with someone who every time he opens his mouth says he doesn't want a child with me or to marry me." Clooney, however, was in a different headspace. In 1997, he told CNN’s Piers Morgan that he did not intend to marry again. (Clooney was married to Talia Balsam for a whopping four years.) "I gave it a shot…once was enough," he said.
Does anyone else think it's bizarre that the hottest guy in Hollywood can't hold on to a relationship for more than a few years at a time? The guy has everything going for him—dashing looks, a successful career and the sexiest talking voice of any male I’ve heard to date. Even if People's Sexiest Man Alive isn’t the marriage type, you'd think he was at least interested in dating or living with a woman long term.
Something strange is up. What on earth is George Clooney doing? Why is he always calling off relationships? Perhaps Gorgeous George isn't doing all the dumping. Maybe women leave him cause of poor character traits or bad habits...
Here are some possible theories on why heartthrob George Clooney is always single.
1) He’s cheap.
Just because Clooney is one of Hollywood’s highest earning actors doesn’t mean he’s not a total penny-pincher. Sometimes there’s an inverse relationship between a guy’s wealth and the amount he’s willing to spend on spoiling his girl. Canalis probably got sick of fast food dates and dumped his sorry a**.
2) He's vain.
Clooney's ego is probably the size of China considering he’s been named the Sexiest Man Alive a million times. Imagine how you'd feel if you had countless attractive women (or men) throwing themselves at you?
3) He is infatuated with Nicole Kidman.
Clooney has starred in several films with Kidman and it is rumored the two are more than "good friends." He once said his ideal women would have the "laughter of Nicole Kidman." Guess Clooney likes a girl with a good laugh and sense of humor.
4) He's a Workaholic.
Clooney spends way too much time working. You'd think by now he might have considered retirement (His hair is certainly gray enough!) but nope- he jumps from project to project like he’s 25 and just starting his career. He may not invest in his relationships, but he sure does works hard!
5) Clooney's a Commitment-Phobe.
Perhaps this is the most likely of all. It's simple. Clooney is too afraid to commit to one woman-a common problem among men-celebrity or not. Maybe he was traumatized as a child or something. Ugh, men!
What do you think? Why is Clooney always single? Is he a cheap, commitment-phobe?
