Any couples out there wondering what the first year of marriage is like? Just ask Nikki Reed, 23, who recently married American Idol Paul McDonald. McDonald, 26, proposed to Reed following the Topanga Days Music Festival at a private location.

In an interview with People, the Twilight actress spoke about the honeymoon phase of marriage. "The first year [of marriage] is not the hardest. Gosh, if this is the hardest, then it’s gonna be easy breezy. Even under the most stressful circumstances he and I are such a good team," she said.

Reed made it clear that she wasn’t rushing to have a baby or build a family any time soon.

"I’m not getting pregnant for a long time. One day [I want to], it's just not what I’m thinking about right now, but I do. I'm young; he's young [and] we want to be best friends and travel and do stuff," she added.

The best part about being married? “We get to be together 24 hours a day," she also told PEOPLE.

At last week’s NYC Cinema Society and DKNY screening of Breaking Dawn – Part 1, the actress shared more about the newlywed life: "Being married is amazing, but we are both still getting used to saying and hearing the words 'husband' and 'wife’. It's a little weird at first, but it's special and I'm really proud to be known as his wife and as Mrs. McDonald. "

And who does the house work—laundry, cooking and cleaning?
"I'm trying to get him to do laundry," Reed laughed, "but it hasn’t happened."
