Just a few weeks ago we reported that 2010 American Idol winner Lee DeWyze proposed to his girlfriend of eight months, actress Jonna Walsh. DeWyze popped the question on July 16 on a private yacht at Disney World in Orlando. 

"They were playing love songs on the boat and I got down on my knee and asked her. I had a speech prepared but it all went out the window so I just asked her. She started crying and I said, 'Is that a yes?'" DeWyze told People Magazine.

And now, James Allen has all the details on the Phantom of the Opera- inspired engagement ring DeWyze gave Walsh.

“I knew Jonna was a fan of Phantom of the Opera, and the ring in the play. I went looking for one that was similar and I found one — the Tiffany Embrace ring — that was perfect.”

But before buying the 1.5-carat sparkler he showed it to Jonna’s sister for some approval.  “Everything was good,” DeWyze said. “I bought the ring two months ago and I was waiting for the right time to ask. I figured out how to do it, and once I knew the date, I decided this was going down.”

The engagement ran smoothly— except for the fact that it almost didn’t happen! Walsh wasn’t feeling well and tried to postpone the trip. “I said ‘No, no, we should go,’” DeWyze laughed recalling the near engagement crises.

Dewyze got down on one knee as their private yacht sailed around the Disney World lagoon. “I had a speech prepared but it all went out the window so I just asked her. She started crying and I said, ‘Is that a yes?’”

So romantic! Guess this stuff doesn’t only happen in fairytales!
DeWyze and Walsh hope to get married next fall. Congrats to the loving couple!
