New Year's isn’t only a time for resolutions; it’s also the perfect time to get engaged! Le Bron James made the most of his New Year's Eve by proposing to longtime lover and high school sweetheart Savannah Brinson. The NBA star asked for Brinson’s hand in marriage at a dinner party at the Shelborne hotel in South Beach.

James and Brinson’s two sons, LeBron Jr., 7, and Bryce, 4, were part of the engagement celebrations. After presenting Brinson with a stunning engagement ring, James picked up his kids and swung them around joyfully.

"It was so sweet to watch," an onlooker told PEOPLE magazine. "Everyone is extremely happy."

The New Year’s Party, which was also a belated birthday party for James, was hosted by Miami heat teammate Dwyane Wade and his girlfriend, actress Gabrielle Union. (James turned 27 a day before the New Year,). About 60 friends and family, including Heat star Chris Bosh and Queen Latifah, joined the celebration.

"I had no idea it was coming…It was beautiful... I told him, 'Good luck,'" Miami Heat forward Chris Bosh said of the proposal. "It was nice. It was real nice."

Heat owner Micky Arison and Chris Paul were just two of the many celebrities who tweeted their congratulations to the happy couple.

On Sunday, a beaming Brinson flaunted her huge diamond ring as she watched her finace and teammates beat the Bobcats 129-90. Photographers snapped away attempting to get close-ups of her mega sparkler.
