It’s been a quite some time since Jessica Simpson announced her engagement to former NFL player Eric Johnson. On November 14, 2010, Johnson, 31, gave Simpson, 30, a Neil Lane three-stone engagement ring, after just 5 months of dating. The ring, which Simpson showed off at Dillard's in Kansas City, features a giant ruby flanked by two smaller diamonds.
Since their engagement, fans have anxiously awaited the announcement of their wedding date and destination. On October 19, 2011, however, fans heard very different, unexpected, and perhaps more exciting news. After months of denying rumors, Simpson confirmed that she was indeed pregnant and expecting her first child with fiancé Johnson.
Simpson revealed the news in a rather theatrical fashion, posting a Halloween picture of her in costume and rubbing her belly. "It's true – I'm going to be a mummy!" the pop-country singer tweeted.
A close friend of the couple told PEOPLE: "They're really excited. It wasn't something they planned per se, but it's also not something they were trying to avoid."
"They're both still really committed to getting married, and were both really into making decisions about what kind of wedding they wanted," the friend added.
So it looks like the wedding date will have to be postponed. Simpson and Johnson want to focus on the excitement and stress of becoming first-time parents.
Simpson was married once before to 98 Degrees member Nick Lachey. Simpson and Lachey’s first year of marriage was chronicled on MTV’s reality show Nick and Jessica.
When asked in an interview with Glamour if she would ever allow a relationship to be so public again, Simpson responded, “No. I would never invite cameras into my life again.” Guess that means Simpson and Johnson won’t be filming a reality show once they tie the knot…
A wise decision, to say the least!
