Although former president Bill Clinton and current Secretary of State wife Hillary Clinton are keeping mum on most of the wedding details, we do know that their only daughter, Columbia University graduate student Chelsea Clinton will exchange wedding rings with childhood friend Marc Mezvinsky on July 31.
But what else do we know about the one-time Goldman Sachs investment banker who reconnected with Chelsea while they were both students at Stanford University? Not all that much. The world is curious about the fianc? of this first daughter as more and more information is coming out about him.
Meet Marc Mezvinsky. Chelsea Clinton's fiance.
Mezvinsky is the son of former Iowa congressman and convicted felon Edward Mezvinsky and former NBC reporter and congresswoman Marjorie Margolies Mezvinsky. His mother served one term from 1992 to 1994 and his father served two terms from 1973 to 1977. Edward served five years in prison after pleading guilty to manipulating dozens of investors out of $10 million. He was released in April 2008 and remains on federal probation and still owes up to $9.4 million to his victims. The couple is now divorced.
Marc Mezvinsky is currently working at the hedge fund G3 Capital and was an investment banker at Goldman Sachs.
Mezvinsky and Clinton first met through their parents in Washington when they were both teenagers. Later, they became friends all over again when they were both students of finance at Stanford University. He reportedly showed her around campus when she was making her decision on where to go to school.
The fact that Mezvinsky is Jewish and Clinton is a practicing Methodist doesn't seem to be a problem. Clinton is open to learning about Judaism. She was spotted attending a Yom Kippur prayer service in September at the Jewish Theological Seminary. But there's no word yet on whether the wedding will be performed by a rabbi or minister.
Though she started dating Mezvinsky openly in 2005, the former first daughter only announced her engagement in November 2009 and by April 2010 she was seen wearing her engagement ring in public. It was reported to be a "sizable diamond."
According to the New York Times, Mezvinsky is self-confident with a good sense of humor. He was also not aware of his father's fraud, though his father allegedly used his son's bank account to keep money transfers hidden.
Mezvinsky was born on December 15, 1977. He grew up in a 15-room home in Philadelphia with a blended family of 11 children, stepchildren, and adopted children.
