On July 31, first daughter Chelsea Clinton will exchange wedding rings with investment banker beau Marc Mezvinsky. The question is: Where? How? And what do her parents former president Bill Clinton and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton think about all this?
In November 2009, Clinton and Mezvinsky, son of former Iowa congressman Edward Mezvinsky and former Pennsylvania congresswoman Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky, announced their engagement to the world.
The two are saying, "I do." That part is certain. But nothing else really is.
The Columbia University graduate student, who once called Mezvinsky a childhood friend , and her family are trying to keep the media from running amuck with information (true and false.) They are keeping tight-lipped about the wedding details. Even current president Barack Obama is opting out of the affair in order to keep the affair as private as possible.
That won't really happen as tabloids and even more reputable publications like The New York Times are coming out with new information, reports , and rumors.
Here's what we do know:
It's been reported that the first daughter will be donning an Oscar de la Renta or Vera Wang bridal gown.
The guest list will include tons of power players. While Barack and Michelle Obama will most likely not make an appearance, invitations have been sent out to 400-something people including Oprah Winfrey, Barbara Streisand, and Steven Spielberg.
Other topics of discussion and fodder include religion. Mezvinsky is a Conservative Jew and his bride-to-be is a practicing Methodist. So will a rabbi overseeing the ceremony? Will Mezvinsky covert?
Wedding planner for the event is Bryan Rafanelli of Boston. The flowers are being done by Jeff Leatham, artistic director of the Four Seasons George V hotel in Paris. The music will be coordinated by Jimmy Vali, president of Vali
Entertainment in Norwood, N.J.
But where will the entire event take place? This is the most questionable of all.
There is talk of the wedding happening two hours north of New York at the 50-acre Astor Courts Estate overlooking the Hudson River in Rhineback, N.Y. But now others are insisting that Rhineback is just a decoy location for the press. In any case, guests do not know the locale. Invitations arrived with instructions to be within driving distance of Manhattan and a promise that specifics would be spent a week before the big day.
Well, the big day is quickly approaching! In the mean time, you'll be hearing more about the lavish circumstances surrounding the wedding of Bill Clinton's baby girl. Stay tuned for parts 2, 3, and 4 which will focus on Chelsea's beau Marc Mezvinsky, more details about potential wedding locales, and what the parents truly think of the entire affair.
Former first lady and mother-of-the-bride Hillary Rodham Clinton has been quoted as saying, "It truly is the most important thing in my life right now." Will Mezvinsky and the entire gala live up to their expectations?
Stay tuned.
