Though we all heard the news when Marc Mezvinsky gave former first daughter Chelsea Clinton an engagement ring and she announced they were engaged in November 2009, many details of the wedding-to-be for the only daughter of former president Bill Clinton and current Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton are actually cloaked in secrecy.
One of the most secretive aspects of the wedding—where it will actually take place. Rumors abound that the "to-dos" will happen at the 50-acre Astor Courts Estate overlooking the Hudson River in Rhinebeck, N.Y, about two hours north of New York City.
But others insist that Rhinebeck is just a decoy for the press.
Astor Courts would be a perfect place for investment banker Mezvinsky and Columbia University graduate student Clinton to tie the knot. It' s a beautiful, century-old 13,000-square-foot Beaux Arts pavilion in Rhinebeck built between 1902 and 1904 for John Jacob Astor IV and designed by Stanford White to emulate the Grand Trianon at Versailles.
But the Clintons have refused to confirm reports that this is the spot. Other publications report that even guests don't know the location and that invitations came with instructions to be within driving distance of Manhattan with a promise that specific details would be sent a week before the day of the ceremony.
The New York Times did some further investigation. They reported that reservations were made by the owner of Astor Courts at Le Petit Bistro, a high-end French restaurant in Rhinebeck, in April for some special guests who turned out to be Hillary Clinton and her daughter plus three girlfriends. The Clintons are frequent visitors in Rhinebeck so it wouldn't be a big surprise if it were the locale for the big day.
Police aren't commenting in Rhinebeck. Neither are business shops, including some that might provide much needed swag for the wedding.
No big surprise there. The wedding will have some high ranking government officials attending, including a potential appearance by current president Barack Obama and family.
One thing's for sure—Clinton will have her wedding dinner catered Terrapin Restaurant, a local favorite in Rhinebeck, according to the NY Daily News. A source tells them that Clinton and fiance Mezvinsky.
The Times Herald-Record calls it the most anticipated wedding since Princess Di and Prince Charles!
