$30 Million Dress Sparkles with 751 DiamondsThu, March 26th 2009, 02:45 EST | |
|
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia An evening gown by designer Faisol Abdullah will contain 751 diamonds, including a 70 carat pear-shaped diamond at the center of the bodice. The whole silk-and-taffeta ensemble—complete with diamond-studded train—will be worth more than $30 million when completed. Abdullah showed his sketches to Reuters. “Stocks drop, gold is even falling but a diamond is forever,” he said. “This is a dress with diamonds. Why do backwards, why can’t we go forwards?” Mouawad, the Middle-Eastern diamond merchants who are famous for supplying celebrities with expensive jewelry, will be providing the diamonds for the dress. The diamond-studded dress is scheduled to be finished just in time for the STYLO fashion show in Kuala Lumpur in April. The dress has been dubbed the “Nightingale of Kuala Lumpur.”
