More Diamonds Now Eligible for Diamond Dossier Services by GIA
5/20/2007
GIA, the premiere diamond grading laboratory in the world, announced today that the carat weight range of diamonds eligible for Diamond Dossier service by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) will be expanded. In addition, GIA will also be restructuring the fees for this service. Tom Moses, Senior Vice President of GIA Laboratory and Research says “In response to heightened demand, we’re making our Diamond Dossier service accessible to more people through a wider range of diamond sizes. Effective June 1, we’ll be lowering the minimum size of diamonds graded to 0.15 cts. and raising the largest size to 1.99cts.” The Diamond Dossier includes a free laser inscription of the GIA report number on the diamond’s girdle, and additional information can be inscribed for a fee. The new fee structure for the Dossier service will be $40 for the smallest diamonds (0.15-0.22cts.), and $42 for diamonds 0.23-0.46cts. The larger stones now receiving Dossiers will cost $90 for 1.00-1.49cts. and $100 for 1.50-1.99cts. The compact format of the Diamond Dossier was introduced in 1998, and has been well received by all parties since then. “The Dossier includes the same grading, proportion and measurement information as the GIA Diamond Grading Report, but without a plotting diagram. This makes it a cost-effective grading and inscription service for diamonds in this size range. Turnaround time is dropping, and GIA is committed to bringing it down significantly in the coming months. Additionally, we’re working on many other parts of our business to make it faster, easier, and more convenient to work with the GIA Laboratory. Expanding the popular Dossier service is just one more way of meeting client needs,” said Moses.
