 Musical prodigy and world-class hip-shaker Shakira is expanding her repertoire still further, appearing as a guest star on this season of "Ugly Betty". The episode, which takes place in the Bahamas, features Shakira as herself, saving the day for the fictional magazine “Mode”. She is found when Betty’s nephew Justin, who knows Shakira’s travel alias, is able to contact the pop star. The TV show’s creator Silvio Horta told People.com, “We’ve mentioned her several times over the course of the series…She’s an enormous Latina icon, as is Betty, and we thought it was a perfect fit”. Shakira’s previous acting experience was on Colombian telanovela El Oasis in 1995. Shakira’s personal life has kept her in the tabloids constantly. Although she has been with Antonia de la Rua for 9 years, rumors of their breakup are constantly popping up. They began dating in 2000, and de la Rua gave Shakira an impressive diamond engagement ring in March 2001. Her future mother-in-law claimed in 2007 that a wedding would take place that September in the Dominican Republic, and that the star had already picked out a wedding dress by Argentine designer Maria Pryor. Shakira denied the statement, and September came and went without any nuptials. Rumors of fighting continue as Shakira continues to wear her engagement ring on her middle finger because it is too big for her ring finger. While both the singer and her fianc? can more than afford to have it resized, Shakira seems the type who doesn’t care which finger her ring is on. On September 4, 2009, Shakira twittered that, “We are neither married nor fighting. We are very together and very good. 9 years!” (translated from Spanish). With a new album being released in October, the singer continues to experiment with musical styles. For the "She Wolf" album, she collaborated with the Neptunes to add a more progressive hip-hop feel to a few of the tracks. The prolific musician/singer/producer Pharrell Williams helped her to think outside the box and work faster and better. Wyclef Jean, who worked with her on the hit “Hips Don’t Lie”, is also featured on the new album, which is a primarily English-language release. The single “She Wolf” is already riding to the top of the charts, largely fueled by the video, which features Shakira not only doing her trademark belly-dancing, but also showing her seductive flexibility, dancing in a cage and hanging from the bars in positions most humans can’t get themselves into. Now that she is in her 30s, Shakira thinks less about getting married and more about having babies. Having stated that she and de la Rua ‘function as a married couple”, she thinks it unimportant to get a wedding ring before having children. When she does have children, it will be interesting to see if they inherit their mother's talent to flip a coin by only moving her belly.
