Ever since the nation got its first glimpse of The Real Housewives of Orange County, it was obvious that this was a reality television franchise that no one could resist.  Now including The Real Housewives of Atlanta, The Real Housewives of New York, and The Real Housewives of New Jersey, America’s voyeurism into the privileged lives of the obscenely wealthy has truly become a nation-wide obsession.

On The Real Housewives of New York, one of the most captivated storylines revolved around a non-wife.  Bethenny Frankel, the unmarried natural foods chef and creator of “Skinnygirl” alcoholic drinks, always put her career first and dating second.  Her married friends were always trying to set her up, and she made it clear that she liked nerdy, brainy guys.  And he had to understand that she was very into her career, which, since the show, has become wildly successful. 

This past weekend, while in Miami, Frankel was seen sporting a diamond ring.  This began rumors that she and her boyfriend of eight months, Jason Hoppy, had proposed.  At an event in the Hamptons, she revealed that “I’m in love.  I’m pretty much certain that I’m going to spend the rest of my life with him.”

While Frankel proudly wears the ring Hoppy gave her, he is still hunting for the perfect diamond engagement ring.  According to a source, “He’s hunting for the ring, but in the meantime this is a place holder or promise ring.”  Evidently, the realtor wanted to make it official before he really makes it official.  Proposing to one of the “Real Housewives” carries with it a certain expectation of big jewelry, in order to compete with the extravagance of Countess (for now) LuAnn de Lesseps, Jill Zarin, Ramona Singer, Alex McCord, and Kelly Bensimon.

Although Hoppy is not enthusiastic about being on a reality television show, he will play a small role because of his relationship with Bethenny, who enjoys the cameras and attention. 

Now all the Real Housewives will be, or have once been, wives.
