In more king of pop-related news, the godfather of Michael Jackson's three children is claiming to be the father of the singer's daughter, Paris. In a video interview with Jackson's longtime friend Mark Lester, 51, broadcast on the News of the World Web site, Lester states he donated his sperm at a London clinic. He said Jackson had already exchanged wedding rings with Debbie Rowe at the time. Now Lester is arguing: "I gave Michael my sperm so that he could have kids — and I believe Paris is my daughter." He further elaborated: "It's been a secret for too long. In 1996 Michael asked me if I would give him my sperm and I said yes. It was a gift to him, no money was paid, it was something I was honoured to do. He wanted children so badly.” The donation was arranged in February, 1996. Eight months later, the singer of Thriller announced his marriage to nurse Debbie Rowe. Paris was born in April, 1998. Explaining why he chose this opportunity to speak out, Lester said he was being refused any contact with Paris since Jackson's mother Katherine was granted custody: "I feel a definite bonding with Paris. I want to have contact with her. It's cruel that I've been excluded." He also said Paris resembled his own 15-year-old daughter, Harriet. Michael Jackson's family lawyer, Brian Oxman, has rejected Mark Lester’s claims. Speaking on GMTV from Los Angeles, he said: "The thing I always heard from Michael was that Michael was the father of these children, and I believe Michael." According to News of the world, Lester is willing to take a paternity test to prove his claim.
