As the holiday season approaches, upscale retailers are taking decadence to new levels, creating luxury items that most mere mortals can only dream of. Taking normal items and turning them gold, or embedding diamonds and other jewels into them is becoming more common, and it’s almost a contest to see who can come up with the most ostentatious holiday gift. If you’re in the market for a cell phone, there are a few new options if you have some extra money. Legendary phone designer Stuart Hughes worked with Davide De Nizza to create a special line called the “Diamond Blackberry Vintage Edition”. The phone is embedded with VS1 black and white diamonds. The back of the phone is covered in Indonesian python skin, and the front has python-skin accents. Because of the rarity of the Indonesian python, and to make the phone more alluring to collectors, only 10 of these phones will be produced, and each will cost just over $7,500. Stuart Hughes also recently announced the creation of the “18-Karat Gold Solid Rose Gold iPhone. It is the first iPhone made of solid rose gold, using 150 grams. It is embedded with 52 pink diamonds to create the Apple logo on the back. To complement the phone, accessories designer Katherine Hughes created the “Gucci Pink Diamond Belt” that contains a total of 584 pink diamonds weighing a total of 3 carats. The Rose Gold iPhone costs almost $37,000, and the matching belt comes in at a hefty $28,400. For Gamers, the gadget masters at Computer Choppers have created an upgrade on the regular PlayStation 3 Slim. Now available are 18-karat gold PlayStation 3 Slims, with an option to have the “PS3” logo either made of 18-karat gold, white diamonds, or platinum encrusted with pave diamonds. They come with a limited lifetime warranty, and only five will ever be built. Each costs $9,000. Also available is the $8,999 solid gold MacBook Pro. Without the diamond-embedded logo, it costs only $5,999. And for the fashionista, there are a few other designer belts that will brighten anyone’s holiday—for a price. Gucci designed a diamond and platinum-studded belt for $169,000, and Dolce and Gabbana created a diamond-encrusted belt buckle for $92,000. The Luxuriator produced 18-karat gold Due-style sunglasses, each with 132 hand-set pave-cut diamonds with a large 2-carat Canary diamond accent, for only $65,000 per pair. No matter what a person is shopping for this holiday season, there is a way to get it gold-plated and covered in diamonds. This is the season when normally-unreasonable gifts become acceptable, and the impossible is made possible. Happy shopping.
