The rumors of Chelsea Clinton’s engagement to Investment Banker Marc Mezvinsky have surfaced again. It would be no surprise if the couple, together since 2005, got married. Rumors started during the 2008 Presidential Election campaign, when mother and current Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was in the running to be the Democratic candidate. Now that Hillary has settled into her new job, her 29-year old daughter can look ahead to her own future. Although Chelsea has not been seen wearing an engagement ring, that doesn’t mean that Mezvinsky hasn’t given her one. Celebrities find it more and more difficult to have discreet, non-paparazzi-laden weddings, so keeping the engagement secret also might just make sense. Originally, insiders were saying that the Chelsea and Marc would exchange wedding rings at Ted Danson’s Martha’s Vineyard estate. Now, according to a statement made by MTV VJ Toure to New York Magazine, the two are planning to get married on the Vineyard, but at a different location. The supposedly-secret location is the summer home of Democratic power broker and Clinton family friend Vernon Jordan. The couple evidently chose the location because it is “up from the road, away from the rigamorole,” said one resident. That would offer the guests more privacy. Considering who would be on the guest list, privacy and security will be a major concern. Not only would the Secretary of State and mother-of-the-bride obviously be in attendance, but the Obama family has apparently made plans to vacation to Martha’s Vineyard this summer. A wedding of this magnitude would bring out politicians and celebrities in droves. While John F. Kennedy, Jr. and Carolyn Bessette managed to avoid the media frenzy of a political wedding by running off and surprising everyone, it does not seem likely for Clinton and Mezvinsky. A “traditional wedding” can perhaps calm the tension between the right and left on the marriage issue, if only for a little while. As of right now, spokespeople for the Clinton camp have said that, “She’s not getting married on the Vineyard or anywhere else this summer. It’s absolutely not true.” Time will tell.
