When Ed Swiderski dropped to one knee and proposed to Jillian Harris on the finale of “The Bachelorette”, he did it with style. The man known for his interesting fashion choices was able to offer a great ring with designer Neil Lane. He was given an array of diamond rings to choose from, but one in particular caught his eye: a 2.05-carat pear-shaped center diamond with six baguettes on each side, and a band encrusted with 94 round brilliant diamonds. It was an engagement ring almost any woman would love. According to Swiderski, Lane showed him the engagement rings and said, “I made a couple of these especially for Jill”. He knew which one was right immediately. Second-runner-up Reid Rosenthal shocked the crowd—and Jillian—by showing up at the filming of the finale, professing his love for her and offering an engagement ring to her. He later said that the ring he offered might have been less impressive, but that’s because he bought it himself and didn’t get it from a high-end designer as a promotion. He left disappointed, as Jillian made it clear that she really loves Swiderski, but he was, at least, able to return the diamond ring. Neil Lane, who designed the rings for both finalists to offer, has also created the engagement rings for Kate Hudson, Sandra Bullock, Brooke Shields, Reese Witherspoon, and Jennifer Hudson. He also made the ring that Bachelor Jason Mesnick offered to Melissa Rycroft on the last season of “The Bachelor”. The shows have been great PR for Lane’s ultra-high-end company. And Jillian seems ecstatic with Ed’s choice, proudly showing it off in photographs and at the follow-up show “After the Final Rose”.
