Personally, I don’t want to live in a world where Phil Collins can’t play drums, but it looks like I may have to. The Grammy-winning, multi-platinum selling pop star recently told a German newspaper that he doesn’t have feeling in his fingers and he isn’t able to pick up his drum sticks. Collins underwent surgery in April to repair a dislocated vertebra in his neck - seems as though the surgery left the musician without the ability to play his favorite instrument. The 58-year-old songsmith was quoted as saying the only way he could drum is if he were to “glue drumsticks to my hands.” But Phil has no plan to give up music entirely. He told the newspaper he plans a recording a new album that will feature covers of 30 Motown covers next year: “I want the songs to sound exactly like the originals,” he told the paper. Collins, who currently lives in Switzerland, was in Hamburg to celebrate the first anniversary of the debut of ‘Tarzan’, the musical. The show features music Collins composed for the 1999 animated Disney film, including the Oscar-winning song ‘You'll Be in My Heart.’ Phil Collins is one of the most successful recording artists of all time. His early work with Genesis set the bar for Progressive Rock and his later work with the band set the pop standard. As a solo performer he has crafted some of the most memorable tunes ever to grace the radio, including the atmospheric masterpiece ‘In The Air Tonight’. He has also worked with Brian Eno, George Harrison, Brand X, Flaming Youth, and Philip Bailey, just to name a few. Collins’ personal life has faced a bit of scrutiny in the past, as he has exchanged wedding rings three times already. He allegedly divorced his 2nd wife, Jill, via fax.
