New York -- Since June, a special collection of 18 jewelry items created by Bulgari has been touring the world to bring attention to two very special things: the 125th anniversary of Bulgari and Save the Children’s “Rewrite the Future” campaign. On December 8, the pieces, worth an estimated total of about $4.5 million, will be auctioned off at Christie’s New York. Proceeds from the auction go to the charity which helps to provide education to millions of children living in areas of conflict or war. Among the pieces created for this cause are a necklace made of 396.29 carats of colored sapphires and 66.45 carats of round brilliant diamonds and a white gold necklace set with 33.82 carats of marquise-cut diamonds, 7.16 carats of round brilliant diamonds, and 38.67 carats of pave-set diamonds. The latter creation is a choker called “The Lucea”. Seven limited-edition timepieces will also be auctioned off. The famous jewelry designer vowed to raise almost $15 million for Save the Children by the end of this year, partially from sales of a limited-edition silver ring that was released early this year. The “Rewrite the Future” Campaign focuses on an estimated 75 million children growing up without education. Another 40 million are not in school because they are in areas of war or conflict. The charity believes that, in school, children can recover from the traumas experienced during war, given the ability to voice their feelings without fear of retribution. They also believe that, by educating these children, they will be helping them to learn that there are better ways to deal with conflict than violence, reeducating them to find peaceful ways to solve problems. The financial support of Bulgari has been created fantastic PR for the fledgling organization. “We are extremely grateful for our partnership with Bulgari and its commitment to education in areas of conflict in war,” says Charles MacCormack, President and CEO of Save the Children. “Bulgari’s support has helped to put this issue on the world’s agenda, assisting an entire generation of young people by giving them a chance to learn the skills they need for a prosperous, peaceful adulthood.” Already, Hollywood has shown support for “Rewrite the Future”, donating time, money and effort to bring attention to the cause. Among those participating are Matt Damon, Julianne Moore, Benicio del Toro, Andy Garcia, Jessica Biel, Sting, Terrence Howard, Willem Dafoe, Jason Lewis, Ben Stiller, Sally Field, Debra Messing and Isabella Rossellini, and Olivia Wilde. Advertising for the campaign showing celebrities wearing the silver ring have appeared in high-end magazines for months. The charity attracts patronage from people from all different backgrounds, age groups, races, and genders. The one thing they have in common is the desire to educate poverty-stricken children in war-torn areas to live peacefully.
