 A report in Calcutta stated that Diamond Trading Corporation (DTC) in India is being restructured and has been renamed DeBeers Marketing Group. Also, the firm in the future will handle diamond brands and intends only to handle generic promotion of diamonds. It was reported that DTC’s business in India now will deal only with the general promotion of diamonds as a category. It also will work to grow the “Forever” mark, which DTC owns. This is a unique number engraved on the table of the diamond. It cannot be seen by the naked eye and only may be viewed with a Forever mark viewer. The mark is used on diamonds of .20 carats and higher. The rough diamond business of DTC in this country will now be done from South Africa. This is a significant change, as the diamond business in Calcutta has exceeded the national growth rate recently. It has grown at 35%, and the national average is around 26%.
