David Hayes-MacLeod, 27, from Uxbridge, UK, is appealing for the return of his wedding ring, which he believes was stolen from his gym locker. He is requesting that the public be on the lookout for the ‘distinctive’ design of the white gold ring encrusted with diamonds, estimated to be worth around £800. MacLeod is a primary school teacher. He was a member of Fitness First Gym until he cancelled his membership following the theft. He has reported the stolen ring to the police and they are also urging the public to be alert to its potential whereabouts. According to MacLeod: “It was last Tuesday evening, I went to the gym after work, and after my workout discovered the ring was missing from my locker. I took it off because you are supposed to take off all jewelry prior to a workout. I'm really angry and disgusted, and cancelled my membership straight away as I believe it had been broken into, there is no other explanation.” He added: “I have been to gyms in rough parts of Aberdeen and this has never happened, I am totally shocked, and the gym seemed totally uninterested. This is a huge personal blow to me as I have only been married since February. I received a phone call from the gym confirming that the locker had indeed been broken into and I had not left it unlocked, but this is where the buck seems to stop, they said they are sorry, but they are not prepared to compensate for their loss.” Linda Travers, membership executive at Fitness First said: “The club's management have informed me that the details of the incident have been logged and we will of course do all we can to assist the Police with their enquiries. However, Fitness First do not accept liability for any loss or damage to personal belongings.” DS Eddie Leftwich, of Hillingdon Police, said: “This ring obviously has sentimental value for the victim. Should anyone be approached or be offered this ring should contact us.”
