Diamond Thief Charged With Attempted Murder

Diamond Thief Charged With Attempted Murder

In what has already been hailed as Britain’s biggest jewel heist, two gunmen casually strolled into Graff Jewelers in Mayfair, an upscale London store, and stole diamonds worth $65 million last month. Yesterday, British police charged a man in connection with the heist with attempted murder.

Although six other men have already been charged with conspiracy to rob the renowned jeweler, Aman Kassaye, 24, faces the most serious charge thus far related to the robbery.

Besides attempted murder, Kassaye is also charged with conspiracy to rob Graff Jewelers, imprisoning and detaining a person against their will, and using a handgun with intent to resist or prevent the arrest or detention of himself and others.

The aftermath of the robbery was captured by amateur video, and it shows screaming pedestrians and shoppers ducking for cover and trying to escape as a shot is fired. Thankfully, no one was hurt.

Security camera footage released shortly after the theft showed two men entering the store, pulling out guns, and briefly taking an employee hostage. They escaped via several getaway cars.

Apparently, one of the robbers in the heist, known as ‘Tim Slim But Dim’, is on the run with half the $65 million haul, and is being hunted not only by the police, but also by the mastermind behind the raid.

After the robbery, two bags were supposed to be handed over to the mastermind, who has links to Russian warlords. One of the bags made its way, but ‘Tim’ fled with the other one.

According to an underworld source, “The gang have been betrayed by one of their own and the gang leader is furious. He has told his crew to find this traitor at all costs. They think the guy is bound to be hiding abroad and fear he is biding his time to try to move on the jewelry and make millions. But if he manages to do it he will have to hide away for the rest of his life."

As of yet, none of the 43 stolen items has been recovered.
