Toledo, Ohio – A fine jeweler in Toledo has taken its cue from a Twitter-based diamond hunt, and has scheduled an engagement ring hunt of their own, using cell phones as their way to give clues. Two weeks ago, Anthony Gardiner of Wellington, New Zealand became a Twitter sensation when he started a scavenger hunt in which all the clues to finding the ring were posted on his Twitter page. He decided to give the ring away after the woman he wanted to marry turned him down. A 21-year old man named Ryan Roselli found the ring and is planning on keeping it, in case someone special comes into his life. Now Toledo has its own version of this, the David Fairclough Diamond Dash. Participants in this high-tech treasure hunt will be given clues via text messages to their cell phones. The hunt begins on Saturday, June 13 at 9:30 a.m. The event, sponsored by David Fairclough Jewelers is free, and open to any couples or two-person teams. They must also be at least 18-years old. Clues and riddles will eventually lead the winner to a HeartStar diamond ring valued at $12,000. Participation is limited, and online registration is required in advance to secure one of the available spots. While only a certain number of people are eligible to be a part of the “Diamond Dash”, everyone is welcome at the after-party, to be held at The Blarney Irish Pub & Grill, 601 Monroe Street, downtown Toledo. What began as a heart-breaking moment for Anthony Gardiner has turned into a world-wide sensation.
