Artist Hirst`s New Work- Diamond Encrusted SkullMon, May 22nd 2006, 07:20 EST | |
| Damien Hirst`s latest work, entitled "For the Love of God", is set to be the world`s most expensive piece of art. A life-size human skull will be cast in platinum and encased in diamonds. The cost will be between $15 million and $18 million to make with the centerpiece stone, a 50ct diamond sitting right on the forehead valued at $5.5 million to $9.4 million. There will ultimately be 8,500 diamonds on the finished product and the piece is expected to bring up to $94 million dollars. Hirst said "I just want to celebrate life by saying to hell with death. What better way of saying luxury, desire and decadence? The only part of the original skull that will remain will be the teeth. You need that grotesque element for it to work as a piece of art. God is in the details and all that."
