Phil Collins Can’t Play Drums AnymorePhil Collins Can’t Play Drums Anymore
Tue, October 20th 2009, 06:41 EST
Personally, I don’t want to live in a world where Phil Collins can’t play drums, but it looks like I may have to. The Grammy-winning, multi-platinum selling pop star recently told a German newspaper that he doesn’t have feeling in his fingers and he isn’t able to pick up his drum sticks. Collins underwent surgery in April to repair a dislocated vertebra in his neck - seems as though the surgery left the musician without the ability to play his favorite instrument. The 58-year-old songsmith was quoted as saying the only way he could drum is if he were to “glue drumsticks to my hands.” But Phil has no plan to give up music entirely. He told the newspaper he plans a recording a new album that will feature covers of 30 Motown covers next year: “I want the songs to sound exactly like the originals,” he told the paper.
The Biggest Mass Wedding In A DecadeThe Biggest Mass Wedding In A Decade
Wed, October 14th 2009, 13:45 EST
More than 40,000 people from around the world were recently involved in the biggest mass wedding in over a decade. Brides in white dresses and Japanese kimonos joined grooms in black suits and red ties to exchange wedding rings. The mass wedding was the largest ‘blessing ceremony” held by the Unification Church since 1999. 89-year-old Reverend Sun Myung Moon, the controversial founder of the church, oversaw the ceremony. His followers are known as Moonies. Most of the couples receiving blessing were marrying for the first time, but many were renewing their vows. The reverend also blessed 10,000 couples from Sweden to Brazil, who were taking part in ceremonies around the world. The massive world-wide ceremony was meant to celebrate two key anniversaries in the leader's life: his 90th birthday and his 50th wedding anniversary. Sun Myung Moon is getting ready to hand everyday leadership of the church over to his children. Dressed in a sharp black suit, Rev. Moon sprinkled holy water over the couple before they exchanged rings.
Roman Polanski To Fight ExtraditionRoman Polanski To Fight Extradition
Tue, September 29th 2009, 12:13 EST
No one can argue that Oscar-winning director Roman Polanski hasn’t had his share of misfortune, both privately and publicly. Well, looks like the 76-year-old auteur has just been dealt another significant blow, being arrested over the past weekend in Switzerland over a 31-year-old U.S. arrest warrant. Despite Polanski’s claim that American prosecutors had never tried to nab him after he fled overseas over thirty years ago, the Los Angeles County district attorney's office said it had contact with several countries in an effort to arrest the ‘Pianist’ director. Polanski's arrest in Switzerland on Saturday sparked an outcry from several European supporters asking why American authorities chose to act now, even though Polanski has been living and working openly in Europe for decades. Polanski’s famous trial was found to be a gross injustice due to the behavior of the now-deceased judge during the case. According to Polanski’s lawyer, “the District Attorney's Office in the 30 years since Mr. Polanski left the jurisdiction, has not once sought to have him extradited. If it had, there would have been a hearing regarding the misconduct in this case.”
Diamond Thief Charged With Attempted MurderDiamond Thief Charged With Attempted Murder
Sun, September 6th 2009, 11:58 EST
In what has already been hailed as Britain’s biggest jewel heist, two gunmen casually strolled into Graff Jewelers in Mayfair, an upscale London store, and stole diamonds worth $65 million last month. Yesterday, British police charged a man, in connection with the heist, with attempted murder, Although six other men have already been charged with conspiracy to rob the renowned jeweler, Aman Kassaye, 24, faces the most serious charge thus far related to the robbery. Besides attempted murder, Kassaye, is also charged with conspiracy to rob Graff Jewelers, imprisoning and detaining a person against their will, and using a handgun with intent to resist or prevent the arrest or detention of himself and others. The aftermath of the robbery was captured by amateur video, and it shows screaming pedestrians and shoppers ducking for cover and trying to escape as a shot is fired. Thankfully, no one was hurt. Security camera footage released shortly after the theft showed two men in entering the store, pulling out guns, and briefly taking an employee hostage. They escaped via several getaway cars. As of yet, none of the 43 stolen items has been recovered.
DJ AM’s Funeral To Be Held In CaliforniaDJ AM’s Funeral To Be Held In California
Wed, September 2nd 2009, 10:10 EST
Adam Goldstein, better known as DJ Am, passed away on August 28th, but the details surrounding his death are still uncertain. It was first reported that Goldstein died of an accidental overdose - now different reports suggest he may have committed suicide. Eight undigested OxyContin pills were found in his body, and a ninth still in his mouth. Also, crack paraphernalia was found near his body. Although the funeral plans haven’t yet been made public, Adam’s body has been released and is reported to be heading to California to be buried there. His mother, Andrea, lives in Los Angeles. Speculation suggests that the funeral will take place in California later this week. Goldstein, who once gave Nicole Richie an engagement ring, was said to be devastated about the recent break up with his girlfriend, Hayley Wood. Sources say that authorities who entered Goldstein's New York apartment found a Valentine's Day card in the next room from Haley Wood. Beside the card were six or seven photos of Wood and Goldstein. Goldstein and good friend Travis Barker, of pop-punk band Blink 182, were involved in a serious plane crash less than a year ago. The accident left four dead. The duo barely escaped by sliding down the wing of the fallen plane. They were both in critical condition after surviving the crash.
