| The Strange Case Of Dennis Hopper’s Divorce Wed, January 20th 2010, 06:30 EST | | It’s no secret that actor Dennis Hopper is dying from cancer and reportedly only has weeks to live. Not to mention, he is in a highly medicated state. So, it makes sense that his recent divorce shocker may not be exactly what it seems.
Last Thursday, Hopper filed for divorce from his Victoria – his wife of 14 years, and the mother of his 6-year-old daughter Galen. The divorce came as a huge shock considering Hopper’s state, and his long marriage to Victoria. Well, a family confidant tells the Huffington Post that Dennis’ daughter Marin is responsible and is trying to squeeze more money from her father’s estate.
“It's so horrible, Dennis is at home, Victoria and Galen are living there as well, and Marin is pulling her father out of his bed and driving him to the divorce lawyers. The poor guy has no idea what is going on. Even his lawyers are telling people he is on painkillers and is essentially sleeping all the time,” a friend told Huffington Post.
Hopper filed the divorce papers despite the fact that his lawyers wouldn’t let him sign any other paperwork at the time due to his mental state. He is reportedly delirious and having trouble speaking.
Marin supposedly lives rent-free at her father’s Vince estate with her child. She earns a living by booking appearances for her father. A family friend told Huffington Post that Dennis delayed the start of his chemo in order to attend a paid gig in Europe organized by Marin.
Friends also believe that all recent statements that have gone out to the media are the work of Marin, not Dennis, given his weakened mental and physical state.

| | Uranus and Neptune May Have Diamond Oceans Tue, January 19th 2010, 04:18 EST | | According to Discovery News, there may be solid diamond icebergs floating in the oceans of Uranus and Neptune. The report stated that based upon the melting point of diamonds, there may indeed be actual oceans of diamonds on some of the distant planets in the solar system.
The underlying idea that suggests the existence of diamonds on distant planets is simple: diamonds tend to behave like water when exposed to extreme temperatures (melting or freezing). The challenge is that diamonds are an extremely hard material, making them very difficult to melt. Furthermore, when exposed to hot temperatures, diamonds physically transform to graphite. Once a diamond has transformed to graphite, it can then be melted into liquid.
Melting diamonds also requires a high pressure environment. Neptune and Uranus are just two planets that have a high pressure and a high temperature.
According to the study, scientist mimicked the planets’ atmospheres. They then took a tiny diamond and bombarded it with lasers at ultra high pressures. The diamond liquefied at an extremely high pressure, incomparable to anything on Earth. When they slowly began to reduce the temperature and pressure, solid diamond clusters appeared. They then floated, which was completely unexpected. The scientists reasoned that the diamonds were behaving like water.
| | Nicolas Cage Owes IRS Another $14 Million Sun, January 17th 2010, 14:48 EST | | Poor Nicolas Cage - seems as though the actor’s financial problem keep growing. Just as Cage decided to get his house in order and pay the IRS all the back taxes he owes, he discovered he owes more - $14 million more.
The government recently placed a tax lien on his real-estate possessions, including an additional $6.7 million from 2008. In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, Nicolas says “Over the course of my career I have paid at least $70 million in taxes, unfortunately, due to a recent legal situation, another approximate $14 million is owed to the IRS. However, I am under new business management and am happy to say that I am current for 2009, all taxes will be paid including any to be determined state taxes.”
Cage has built a reputation for his extravagant spending habits, even by Hollywood standards. He has spent loads of money on fast cars, diamond jewelry, yachts, castles - even a collection of shrunken heads and dinosaur skulls.
Cage is also being sued by Christina Fulton - the mother of his eldest child, Weston. Christina is suing Nicolas for fraud and breach of contract. She claims she is tangled up in his financial mismanagement and is in debt for more than $1.2 million herself as a result.

“I feel fortunate to have been diagnosed with an imminently treatable and curable condition, and I thank my doctors and nurses for their expertise and care,” Hall said in a statement on Wednesday.
The 38 year old actor was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer that affects the body’s immune system. The good news is that the disease is considered highly treatable, with a prognosis of full recovery.
Craig Bankey, a spokesman for the actor, said the cancer is in complete remission and that Hall’s treatment will continue.
So far, the name of the Los Angeles health facility where Hall has undergone treatment, and the time period when he underwent it, has not been released.

| | Avatar Leaving Some Viewers Depressed And Suicidal Wed, January 13rd 2010, 07:21 EST | | Here’s a story you simply can’t make up: James Cameron’s new 3-D fantasy science fiction movie Avatar is leaving viewers depressed and even suicidal. The reason? Viewers cannot find meaning in their ordinarily lives on this earth after spending nearly 3 hours on the beautiful alien planet Pandora during the course of the film.
On the fan site Avatar Forums, there is a thread entitled ‘Ways to cope with the depression of the dream of Pandora being intangible’. The thread has received over 1,000 posts from people who cannot cope with real life after witnessing James Cameron’s spectacle. In fact, the topic has grown so popular that forum administrator Philippe Baghdassarian created a second thread for people to express their dejected feeling to others offering advice.
Here is a taste of such posts:
“I just watched avatar a few weeks ago and I'm feeling depressed and sad. It's like I want to reach out and be in Pandora. I'd do anything to be in Pandora. I've tried so hard to dream about me being on Pandora but it hasn't worked.”
“Ever since I went to see 'Avatar' I have been depressed. Watching the wonderful world of Pandora and all the Na'vi made me want to be one of them. I can't stop thinking about all the things that happened in the film and all of the tears and shivers I got from it. I even contemplate suicide thinking that if I do it I will be rebirthed in a world similar to Pandora and the everything is the same as in 'Avatar.'”
“Because, at this point, there isn't pretty much anything else that can be done. Until the release of DVD/BluRay. But even that won't take away all of the depression. Because you know you can never actually go to Pandora, as it exists only in our imagination... sigh...”

| | Previously-Unsold Diamond Re-Cut and Named “Kimberley Red” Tue, January 12nd 2010, 01:32 EST | | New York, NY – In 2008, a 1.77-carat, radiant-cut purplish-pink diamond from Rio Tinto’s Argyle mine in Australia didn’t attract much attention, and went unsold. In 2009, Scarselli Diamonds partnered with some other companies and bought the diamond with plans to re-cut it. Most Argyle diamonds tend to be difficult to cut because they often have many inclusions, increasing the risk of cutting too much and lowering the overall value.
Joshua Sheby, a gemologist with Scarselli, thought there was potential to successfully cut it. “It was just a matter of readjusting some of the angles,” he said, “and bringing out that red component”. The ‘red component’ was the result of his work: a 1.61-carat, radiant-cut purplish-red stone with an estimated value of over $2 million. Argyle Pink Diamonds issued a letter of rarity, signed by business manager Josephine Archer, stating the diamond has been renamed the “Kimberley Red”, presumably after the famous Kimberley mine in South Africa, although this diamond was discovered on another continent. The letter also stated that only one other diamond over 1.5 carats and classified as “fancy purplish-red” has been graded by the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) in the past ten years.

| | Rookie Mark Sanchez Leads New York Jets to Playoff Victory Sun, January 10th 2010, 18:23 EST | | Cincinnati, Ohio -- Mark Sanchez’s college coach openly criticized the quarterback’s decision to enter the NFL draft after his junior year, saying that he was not “fully prepare[d]”. Last night, the rookie QB played a nearly-flawless game, leading the Jets past the Cincinnati Bengals and bringing them to the Divisional Round and one step closer to the coveted Super Bowl diamond rings. Despite the year-old warning from his USC coach and the single-digit temperatures, Sanchez—playing without a glove in the freezing-cold weather—completed 12 out of 15 passes for 182 yards. Just three weeks ago, the Jets were not playing like a championship team. Sanchez himself threw 3 interceptions and they lost to the Falcons. The Bengals were looking forward to putting the game in the hands of the passer who ranked second in interceptions this season. What they weren’t counting on was that this boy had something to prove and was ready to repeat last week’s team 257-yard performance. They also didn’t count on the Jets’ impeccable running game. | |
| | Johnson and Johnson Heiress Casey Johnson Dead at 30 Tue, January 5th 2010, 13:01 EST | | This past Monday, the New York Jets announced that Casey Johnson – the daughter of the team’s owner, Woody Johnson – passed away in Los Angeles. The cause of death is yet undetermined. Casey was just 30 years old when she died.
“The Johnson family is mourning its tragic loss, and asks for privacy during this very difficult time,” a statement from the New York Jets said.
Police officers found Johnson in her Los Angeles home around 11:51 a.m. Paramedics pronounced her dead on the scene, officer Sara Faden said. Faden said she did not know how long Johnson may have been dead for by the time authorities arrived.
She said Johnson's death may have been from natural causes, since a preliminary death investigation didn't turn up any signs of foul play. A final cause of death will be determined by coroner's officials, but the results of the tests could take six weeks.
Casey’s great-great-grandfather (yeah, he’s really great) was the co-founder of Johnson and Johnson. Much like other popular modern heiresses like Paris Hilton, Johnson had a very outgoing personality, and was featured in the 2002 documentary The It Girls.
Last month, Johnson made headlines after she and reality star Tila Tequila announced that they were engaged. Casey even went as far as buying an engagement ring for Tila.

| | Diamond Earrings And Wedding Ring Stolen From Dead Body Thu, December 31st 2009, 12:40 EST | | Early Wednesday morning, thieves broke into a funeral home in Goodlettsville and stole a pair of diamond earrings and a wedding ring off the deceased body of a local woman just hours before her funeral started.
As it stands, there are very few leads regarding the robbery, but police are hopeful that someone will come forward with information.
Mary Ann Morgan, general manager of Forest Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, said the burglary was a first for the funeral home. “It really just makes me sick that anyone would do something like this. The hurt that this person or persons caused the family, there's just no forgiveness for that,” she expressed.
Morgan said the body of Robbie Sue Williams, 79, was the only body inside the funeral home at the time. Besides the stolen jewelry, the body wan’t tampered with.
In addition to the jewelry, two flat-screen televisions, two computers, a sound system and a white 2004 Ford van were snatched.
Larry Kirby - a neighbor of Williams' - said he had known her for nearly14 years. “It's terrible that this happened to her. But, it's also terrible for Forest Lawn. It's where my parents and grandparents are buried and it's where I'm going to be buried. You've got to be a low-class person to do something like this. I think stealing off the dead goes beyond bad. It's just wicked,” he lamented.
