| | Rare Blue Diamond To Be Added To Smithsonian Sun, January 3rd 2010, 11:53 EST | | Starting this month, two of the world’s most celebrated blue diamonds will be on display together at the Smithsonian.
The 31.06 carat Wittelsbach-Graff Diamond will join the 45.52 carat Hope Diamond at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History starting on January 29. the museum announced this past Monday.
This will be the first time in over half a century that the Wittelsbach Diamond has been on public display. It will remain on display at the museum until August 1, 2010.
Both diamonds were discovered in the 17th century, and they may share a collective history. Scientists are planning tests to determine if the gems came from the same mine – specifically, the mine in India where the Hope Diamond is known to have come from.
The Wittelsbach Diamond was first reported in the 1660s, when Philip IV of Spain gave it to his daughter - who was to marry Emperor Leopold I of Austria.
In 1722 it became the property of the Wittelsbachs - the ruling family of Bavaria. After World War I it disappeared until it resurfaced in Belgium in 1951. Last year it was acquired by jeweler Laurence Graff, chairman of Graff Diamonds International Ltd, during an auction by Christie’s in London.

| | Diamond Earrings And Wedding Ring Stolen From Dead Body Thu, December 31st 2009, 12:40 EST | | Early Wednesday morning, thieves broke into a funeral home in Goodlettsville and stole a pair of diamond earrings and a wedding ring off the deceased body of a local woman just hours before her funeral started.
As it stands, there are very few leads regarding the robbery, but police are hopeful that someone will come forward with information.
Mary Ann Morgan, general manager of Forest Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery, said the burglary was a first for the funeral home. “It really just makes me sick that anyone would do something like this. The hurt that this person or persons caused the family, there's just no forgiveness for that,” she expressed.
Morgan said the body of Robbie Sue Williams, 79, was the only body inside the funeral home at the time. Besides the stolen jewelry, the body wan’t tampered with.
In addition to the jewelry, two flat-screen televisions, two computers, a sound system and a white 2004 Ford van were snatched.
Larry Kirby - a neighbor of Williams' - said he had known her for nearly14 years. “It's terrible that this happened to her. But, it's also terrible for Forest Lawn. It's where my parents and grandparents are buried and it's where I'm going to be buried. You've got to be a low-class person to do something like this. I think stealing off the dead goes beyond bad. It's just wicked,” he lamented.

| | Carrie Underwood’s Engagement Ring Is One Of A Kind Mon, December 28th 2009, 09:44 EST | | Recently it was revealed that singer Carrie Underwood was engaged to Ottawa Senator Mike Fisher. Well, the bulky engagement ring Carrie proudly displayed Monday night at the Ottawa Senators game is truly a jewel to behold. The value of the ring, however, is difficult to gauge – as different experts have provided differing opinions.
A rep at New York’s Diamond Information Center said that the five Carat round diamond engagement ring, complete with diamond side stones, is worth a small fortune - more that $150,000.
However, according to Mo Charania, a gemologist and owner of Jubilee Jewelers, it seems the ring is at least three carats - possibly more - and is certainly valued at six figures.
“It's a centre round diamond and one row of diamonds around it called micro pave,” Charania confirmed after viewing photos of the ring. “I'd say the ring is worth well into six figures, but it depends on the quality of the stone,” he added.
It seems likely that Fisher bought his bride-to-be the engagement ring through a private jeweler or at a U.S. jewelry store that specializes in fine-quality jewelry.
Fisher and Underwood got engaged Sunday, after dating for 3 years. Underwood displayed her ring for the first time at that night's game against the Boston Bruins.

| | Jon Gosselin’s Apartment Burglarized Sun, December 27th 2009, 07:19 EST | | After spending Christmas in Pennsylvania with his eight children, Jon Gosselin returned to his New York apartment to find it had been burglarized.
“[He] called me this afternoon . . . when he entered his apartment in Manhattan and was horrified, disheartened and saddened to observe the devastation of his furniture, clothing and personal belongings, which were apparently slashed with a butcher knife by a very troubled and sick perpetrator,” Jon's lawyer, Mark Jay Heller, said in a statement this past Saturday. “Jon immediately contacted me and facilitated the able assistance of the New York City Police Department who immediately dispatched an experienced detective to Jon’s apartment.”
According to Heller’s statement, Gosselin discovered a note that was “speared” into his wooden dresser. Heller also says that Jon's television, CD player, coffee maker, dishes, pots and pans were stolen from his apartment. Also, much of his clothing, luggage and bedding was slashed. The word “cheater” was carved into the headboard of his bed. Approximately $100,000 worth of damages was done to Jon’s apartment. Good thing he didn't have his diamond earrings lying around.
“The greatest damage from this vicious, mean spirited and heartless crime was perpetrated not on Jon’s property and possessions, but on Jon Gosselin himself, who experienced a traumatic, emotional, roller coast ride having just shared a joyful family gathering with his children during their Christmas,” Heller's statement read.
| | Susan Sarandon And Tim Robbins Split
Thu, December 24th 2009, 04:44 EST | | One of Hollywood’s most beloved couples, Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins, have ended their 23 year relationship. The couple have two sons - Jack Henry, 20, and Miles Guthrie, 17.
Although Sarandon and Robbins never exchanged wedding rings, they truly seemed as though they were in it for the long run. In a statement released on Wednesday, publicist Teal Cannady revealed that the pair split this summer. She did not elaborate.
Sarandon, 63, and Robbins, 51, met in 1988 while shooting the film Bull Durham.
Sarandon has stared in such memorable films like Thelma and Louise and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. In 1996 she won an Oscar for her role in Dead Man Walking. The film was directed by Robbins.
Robbins won an Academy Award for his role in 2003's Mystic River, directed by Clint Eastwood.
In addition to the couple's sons, Susan has a daughter, Eva Amurri, from a previous relationship. Amurri recently starred in Showtime’s hit show Californication, along side David Duchovny.
| | Steven Tyler Of Aerosmith Enters Rehab Wed, December 23rd 2009, 08:51 EST | | Aerosmith lead singer Steven Tyler has entered a rehab facility to deal with an addiction to prescription painkillers. He has relied on the meds to help him deal with 10 years of performance injuries and wear and tear.
“With the help of my family and team of medical professionals, I am taking responsibility for the management of my pain and am eager to be back on the stage and in the recording studio with my bandmates Joe Perry, Joey Kramer, Tom Hamilton and Brad Whitford,” Tyler said in a statement to PEOPLE.
“I love Aerosmith; I love performing as the lead singer in Aerosmith. I am grateful for all of the support and love I am receiving and am committed to getting things taken care of,” he added.
Actress Liv Tyler says: “My family and I are in complete support of my dad's decision to seek treatment. He is a courageous man. We love him and are so proud that he is getting help to balance his pain management, not just for himself but for his family, friends and fans.” Liv is the daughter of Steven Tyler and fashion model Bebe Buell, although the couple never exchanged wedding rings.
Steven, 61, has suffered many orthopedic injuries over the years that have left him with “severe chronic pain” and will require additional surgeries on his knees and feet says his physician, Dr. Brian McKeon.
“Managing and controlling his pain has been challenging, and despite our use of alternative therapies and the creation of custom shoes built by a team of engineers from Timberland, Steven's pain has progressed. The balance between managing his pain and avoiding addiction is tenuous and difficult and his bravery in persevering through rigorous touring is admirable. As with many athletes, Steven put his performance first as he struggled with acute pain for years,” says Dr. Mckeon
| | Carrie Underwood Engaged To Mike Fisher Tue, December 22nd 2009, 15:28 EST | | Country music star and former American Idol winner Carrie Underwood is engaged to Ottawa Senator Mike Fisher. Underwood, 26, has been dating Fisher, 29, for more than a year. They were introduced by one of her band members.
Mike popped the question in front of friends and family on Sunday. He texted the exciting news to his close friends soon after.
“He was pretty excited,” said a source. “She's a great gal and I think they're made for each other.”
A wedding date has not yet been set, but it seems as though the couple will exchange wedding rings in the near future. A rep for the couple confirmed the engagement: “I'm happy to confirm that Carrie Underwood is engaged to Mike Fisher, and the couple couldn't be happier. No wedding date has been set at this time.”
Fisher recently discussed his relationship with Underwood on The Sens Show, a web news show run by his team: “Obviously, it's tough with our schedules to see each other, but we find a way to make it work. She doesn't get too many days off — a lot less days off than I get. She's always going. She's talented and she's getting rewarded for it. That's good to see.”
In the liner notes of her newest album Play On, Carrie wrote a sweet sentiment to her man: “Thank you #12. You are the most amazing addition to my life. I thank God for you every day. . . xoxo Carrie.” The #12 refers to Fisher’s jersey number.
