Full 2010 Golden Globes ReportFull 2010 Golden Globes Report
Mon, January 18th 2010, 04:13 EST
Last night, British funny man Ricky Gervais hosted the 2010 Golden Globe Awards, and the show was exciting as ever. Not too surprising, although a bit disappointing, Avatar won Best Picture, beating out Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds and Reitman’s Up In The Air. The extremely talented and funny Alec Baldwin won a much deserved award Best Actor in a Televsion Series, Comedy or musical for his role on NBC’s hit comedy 30 Rock. Unfortunately, his co-star and series creator, Tina Fay, lost out to United Stares of Tara’s Toni Collette in the actress category. Tarantino’s brilliant WWII film, Inglorious Basterds, got the short end of the stick, not winning Best Picture or Best Screenplay. However, the incredible Christoph Waltz did win Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture for his menacing role in Tarantino’s masterpiece. Michael C. Hall, who recently announced he was battling cancer, won Best Actor in a Television Series, Drama for his role as serial killer/blood spatter analyst on Showtime’s Dexter. He gave a concise, yet moving speech in which he thanked his co-stars, including his wife Jennifer Carpenter. John Lithgow won a much-deserved award for his role as Arthur Mitchell/Trinity Killer in the Best Supporting Actor in a Series, Miniseries or Motion Picture Made for Television category for Dexter. Things were exciting on the Red Carpet as well. Newly engaged Jane Krakowski showed off her gorgeous diamond engagement ring – the first time since getting engaged.
Nicolas Cage Owes IRS Another $14 Million Nicolas Cage Owes IRS Another $14 Million
Sun, January 17th 2010, 14:48 EST
Poor Nicolas Cage - seems as though the actor’s financial problem keep growing. Just as Cage decided to get his house in order and pay the IRS all the back taxes he owes, he discovered he owes more - $14 million more. The government recently placed a tax lien on his real-estate possessions, including an additional $6.7 million from 2008. In an exclusive statement to PEOPLE, Nicolas says “Over the course of my career I have paid at least $70 million in taxes, unfortunately, due to a recent legal situation, another approximate $14 million is owed to the IRS. However, I am under new business management and am happy to say that I am current for 2009, all taxes will be paid including any to be determined state taxes.” Cage has built a reputation for his extravagant spending habits, even by Hollywood standards. He has spent loads of money on fast cars, diamond jewelry, yachts, castles - even a collection of shrunken heads and dinosaur skulls. Cage is also being sued by Christina Fulton - the mother of his eldest child, Weston. Christina is suing Nicolas for fraud and breach of contract. She claims she is tangled up in his financial mismanagement and is in debt for more than $1.2 million herself as a result.
Dexter Star Michael C. Hall Has CancerDexter Star Michael C. Hall Has Cancer
Thu, January 14th 2010, 12:06 EST
Michael C. Hall, the actor who plays everyone’s favorite fictitious serial killer – Dexter - just announced he has cancer. He is currently undergoing treatment and the disease is in remission, said a spokeman. “I feel fortunate to have been diagnosed with an imminently treatable and curable condition, and I thank my doctors and nurses for their expertise and care,” Hall said in a statement on Wednesday. The 38 year old actor was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a cancer that affects the body’s immune system. The good news is that the disease is considered highly treatable, with a prognosis of full recovery. Craig Bankey, a spokesman for the actor, said the cancer is in complete remission and that Hall’s treatment will continue. So far, the name of the Los Angeles health facility where Hall has undergone treatment, and the time period when he underwent it, has not been released. Hall plans to attend Sunday's Golden Globe awards and the upcoming Screen Actors Guild ceremony with his wife, actress Jennifer Carpenter, who plays his sister on Showtime's hit show Dexter. Hall and Carpenter exchanged wedding rings on New Year’s eve 2008. Hall is a nominee at both awards shows for his role as Dexter Morgan, a serial killer working as a blood-spatter expert.
Avatar Leaving Some Viewers Depressed And SuicidalAvatar Leaving Some Viewers Depressed And Suicidal
Wed, January 13rd 2010, 07:21 EST
Here’s a story you simply can’t make up: James Cameron’s new 3-D fantasy science fiction movie Avatar is leaving viewers depressed and even suicidal. The reason? Viewers cannot find meaning in their ordinarily lives on this earth after spending nearly 3 hours on the beautiful alien planet Pandora during the course of the film. On the fan site Avatar Forums, there is a thread entitled ‘Ways to cope with the depression of the dream of Pandora being intangible’. The thread has received over 1,000 posts from people who cannot cope with real life after witnessing James Cameron’s spectacle. In fact, the topic has grown so popular that forum administrator Philippe Baghdassarian created a second thread for people to express their dejected feeling to others offering advice. Here is a taste of such posts: “I just watched avatar a few weeks ago and I'm feeling depressed and sad. It's like I want to reach out and be in Pandora. I'd do anything to be in Pandora. I've tried so hard to dream about me being on Pandora but it hasn't worked.” “Ever since I went to see 'Avatar' I have been depressed. Watching the wonderful world of Pandora and all the Na'vi made me want to be one of them. I can't stop thinking about all the things that happened in the film and all of the tears and shivers I got from it. I even contemplate suicide thinking that if I do it I will be rebirthed in a world similar to Pandora and the everything is the same as in 'Avatar.'” “Because, at this point, there isn't pretty much anything else that can be done. Until the release of DVD/BluRay. But even that won't take away all of the depression. Because you know you can never actually go to Pandora, as it exists only in our imagination... sigh...”
Sarah Palin To Join Fox NewsSarah Palin To Join Fox News
Tue, January 12nd 2010, 11:55 EST
Sarah Palin, former governor of Alaska and 2008 Republican Vice Presidential candidate, will join the Fox News team as a regular commentator, the cable channel announced on Monday. “I am thrilled to be joining the great talent and management team at Fox News. It's wonderful to be part of a place that so values fair and balanced news,” Palin said in a statement. Fox said that Palin will provide political commentary and analysis on Fox News, Web site, radio network and business cable channel. She also will also occasionally host episodes of Fox News' ‘Real American Stories’ - a new series will feature true stories about Americans who have triumphed over adversity. “Governor Palin has captivated everyone on both sides of the political spectrum and we are excited to add her dynamic voice to the FOX News lineup,” said Bill Shine, executive vice president of programming. The network hasn’t announced when Palin will start, or how much she will get paid. It is also unclear whether Palin will relocate to New York or commute from Alaska. Palin is popular with conservatives and has more than 1.1 million Facebook followers. She exchanged wedding rings with conservative hubby Todd in 1988.
Argyle-Mine-Red-Diamonds-Kimberley-RedPreviously-Unsold Diamond Re-Cut and Named “Kimberley Red”
Tue, January 12nd 2010, 01:32 EST
New York, NY – In 2008, a 1.77-carat, radiant-cut purplish-pink diamond from Rio Tinto’s Argyle mine in Australia didn’t attract much attention, and went unsold. In 2009, Scarselli Diamonds partnered with some other companies and bought the diamond with plans to re-cut it. Most Argyle diamonds tend to be difficult to cut because they often have many inclusions, increasing the risk of cutting too much and lowering the overall value. Joshua Sheby, a gemologist with Scarselli, thought there was potential to successfully cut it. “It was just a matter of readjusting some of the angles,” he said, “and bringing out that red component”. The ‘red component’ was the result of his work: a 1.61-carat, radiant-cut purplish-red stone with an estimated value of over $2 million. Argyle Pink Diamonds issued a letter of rarity, signed by business manager Josephine Archer, stating the diamond has been renamed the “Kimberley Red”, presumably after the famous Kimberley mine in South Africa, although this diamond was discovered on another continent. The letter also stated that only one other diamond over 1.5 carats and classified as “fancy purplish-red” has been graded by the GIA (Gemological Institute of America) in the past ten years.
Sanchez-Leads-Bid-For-Super-Bowl-Diamond-RingsRookie Mark Sanchez Leads New York Jets to Playoff Victory
Sun, January 10th 2010, 18:23 EST
Cincinnati, Ohio -- Mark Sanchez’s college coach openly criticized the quarterback’s decision to enter the NFL draft after his junior year, saying that he was not “fully prepare[d]”. Last night, the rookie QB played a nearly-flawless game, leading the Jets past the Cincinnati Bengals and bringing them to the Divisional Round and one step closer to the coveted Super Bowl diamond rings. Despite the year-old warning from his USC coach and the single-digit temperatures, Sanchez—playing without a glove in the freezing-cold weather—completed 12 out of 15 passes for 182 yards. Just three weeks ago, the Jets were not playing like a championship team. Sanchez himself threw 3 interceptions and they lost to the Falcons. The Bengals were looking forward to putting the game in the hands of the passer who ranked second in interceptions this season. What they weren’t counting on was that this boy had something to prove and was ready to repeat last week’s team 257-yard performance. They also didn’t count on the Jets’ impeccable running game.
Russell Brand and Katy Perry are EngagedRussell Brand and Katy Perry are Engaged
Thu, January 7th 2010, 10:41 EST
It appears that England’s biggest playboy, Russell Brand, is retiring the single life. He’s found love… and her name is Katy Perry. Brand supposedly popped the question and presented an engagement ring to the pop singer during a spiritual ceremony on New Year’s Eve in India. During December, Russell was spotted shopping at a London jewelers for the perfect engagement ring. Brand ended up purchasing a large, square-cut diamond set in a platinum band. He allegedly told a friend: “Katy's managed to tame me. This is it - I'm completely in love.” On Boxing Day, Brand Twitted: “Tonight I turned off my famous, hedonistic hot-tub, a monumental event. I did it for climate change. In every sense.” The couple has been dating since September 2009, when they met backstage at an MTV event. On December 29, Perry shared a snapshot of her and Brand in front of India's famed Taj Mahal. “He built this for me,” she wrote as the caption beneath the photo. The exotic trip to India “was his Christmas gift” to Perry says a source. “She told him how much she loved Indian culture while they were eating curry in England, so he surprised her.”
30 Rock’s Jane Krakowski Engaged 30 Rock’s Jane Krakowski Engaged
Thu, January 7th 2010, 03:44 EST
Many couples become engaged during the holiday season. And what’s good for most is certainly good for one of the most exciting, talented actresses in television today. That’s right… I’m talking about the incomparable Jane Krakowski – co-star of NBC’s great comedy series 30 Rock. During the holidays, Jane’s boyfriend, clothing designer Robert Godley, gave her the ultimate present – a diamond engagement ring. A rep for Krakowski says “Jane Krakowski and Robert Godley are thrilled to announce that they are engaged to be married. Mr. Godley proposed to Ms. Krakowski over the holidays. She is very, very happy.” The couple has reportedly been dating for more than a year. No wedding day is currently set. It will be the Tony-winning actress’ first time at the altar. Goodley is a co-founder of Psycho Bunny upscale menswear. He was born in Kent, England, but grew up in London. “She is very much in love, and very, very happy,” a friend told Access Hollywood. As for the engagement ring?: “She loves it! It’s beautiful!”
Johnson and Johnson Heiress Casey Johnson Dead at 30Johnson and Johnson Heiress Casey Johnson Dead at 30
Tue, January 5th 2010, 13:01 EST
This past Monday, the New York Jets announced that Casey Johnson – the daughter of the team’s owner, Woody Johnson – passed away in Los Angeles. The cause of death is yet undetermined. Casey was just 30 years old when she died. “The Johnson family is mourning its tragic loss, and asks for privacy during this very difficult time,” a statement from the New York Jets said. Police officers found Johnson in her Los Angeles home around 11:51 a.m. Paramedics pronounced her dead on the scene, officer Sara Faden said. Faden said she did not know how long Johnson may have been dead for by the time authorities arrived. She said Johnson's death may have been from natural causes, since a preliminary death investigation didn't turn up any signs of foul play. A final cause of death will be determined by coroner's officials, but the results of the tests could take six weeks. Casey’s great-great-grandfather (yeah, he’s really great) was the co-founder of Johnson and Johnson. Much like other popular modern heiresses like Paris Hilton, Johnson had a very outgoing personality, and was featured in the 2002 documentary The It Girls. Last month, Johnson made headlines after she and reality star Tila Tequila announced that they were engaged. Casey even went as far as buying an engagement ring for Tila.
