 | New Orleans Celebrates Mardi Gras and Super Bowl Victory in Style
Tue, February 16th 2010, 05:25 EST | | New Orleans, LA – This year’s Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans began, as usual, two weeks before the final day of official festivities, Fat Tuesday itself. Some have said that this is the first year that the celebration isn’t tainted in some way my memories of Hurricane Katrina. Between the New Orleans Saints winning the Super Bowl a week ago and the rebuilding of the city, people are feeling—for the first time in almost five years—like celebrating. At Saturday’s Endymion parade, the crowd was at least 20 deep and many had camped out for days to catch some of the finest beads and favors thrown at Mardi Gras. The Grand Marshal of the parade was announced in the beginning of January: Saints Owner Tom Benson. From his Vince Lombardi Trophy-themed float, he waved to the jubilant crowd and held up signs, thanking him for not moving the team after Katrina hit. Also on the float with him were a number of Saints players, throwing beads and joining in the fun. | |
|  | Kevin Smith Is Too Fat To Fly
Mon, February 15th 2010, 06:34 EST | | Poor, fat Kevin Smith. The director of Clerks, Jersey Girl and Mallrats was delayed getting from Oakland to Burbank on Sunday because Southwest Airlines considered him a safety risk due to his sizeable weight and removed him from a flight.
Smith responded via Twitter, and the responses are what you would expect: “Dear @SouthwestAir - I know I'm fat, but was Captain Leysath really justified in throwing me off a flight for which I was already seated?”
“I'm way fat... But I'm not THERE just yet,” he continued. “But if I am, why wait til my bag is up, and I'm seated WITH ARM RESTS DOWN. In front of a packed plane with a bunch of folks who'd already I.d.ed me as 'Silent Bob.'”
Southwest Airlines gave Smith a $100 voucher and put him on a different flight. But that didn’t stop the director from continuing his barrage: “Hey @SouthwestAir! Look how fat I am on your plane! Quick! Throw me off!”
“The @SouthwestAir Diet. How it works: you're publicly shamed into a slimmer figure. Crying the weight right off has never been easier!” he continued. “Hey @SouthwestAir! I've landed in Burbank. Don't worry: wall of the plane was opened & I was airlifted out while Richard Simmons supervised.”
Southwest Airlines has a policy that requires customers to buy an additional seat if they cannot fit between the armrests of a single seat. When extra seats are available, these customers are given a refund or relocated free of charge.

Sun, February 14th 2010, 17:56 EST | | One of the key treasures of celebrating Valentine’s Day properly is to give your sweetheart Sweethearts – those tiny heart-shaped candies with phrases of love written on them. Popular favorites include “LETS KISS” and “MY BABY.” In fact, it’s an even bigger tradition that getting down on one knee and giving your girlfriend an engagement ring and offering a proposal.
Everybody knows that Sweethearts taste pretty awful. “I would describe the taste to be, uh, like a delicious chalk,” says Keith Luke. Jonah Spiegel agrees: “They're kind of weird-tasting.” Even Spiegel’s mom chimes in: “They kind of taste like Pepto-Bismol a little bit.”
Well, this Valentine’s Day things are looking up… at least in the taste department. For the first time in 145 years, the Necco company – the company that makes Sweethearts – has revamped their recipe.
Despite the fact that Sweethearts are already the best selling non-chocolate Valentine’s Day candy, the new Sweethearts have brighter colors, better flavor and updated expressions.
“The original Sweethearts were a bit chalky,” Vice President Dave Smith says. “Some people really like eating chalky, but the idea is that the new flavors and textures are much more candy-like, and you can enjoy them more because they taste a little better.” | |
|  | Groom Has Marriage Annulled After Getting Good Look At Wife
Thu, February 11st 2010, 16:16 EST | | Here’s a story that ought to crack you up, and maybe even make your lunch turn. According to news reports from the United Arab Emirates, an Arab ambassador received quite a shock after he exchanged wedding rings with his bride.
Since it is custom for women in Arab countries to cover their face with a veil, the unnamed ambassador courted his bride – a doctor – without actually seeing her face. He simply relied on a photograph shown to him by the bride’s mother.
Well, on the wedding day, after he lifted the veil to kiss the bride, he discovered she was cross-eyed and had facial hair. Turns out the photograph he was shown was of the bride’s attractive sister.
Quickly, the ambassador went to seek an annulment. He told the Islamic sharia court that he was duped into marriage and deserved compensation. According to Gulf News, he requested that the court refer the woman to a specialist to see if she suffered from hormonal problems. The specialist found there to be no such problem.

Wed, February 10th 2010, 07:26 EST | | Looks like rapper Lil Wayne caught a break… sort of. The wordsmith’s sentencing in a weapons charge was postponed on Tuesday so he could have dental surgery before going to jail.
As it now stands, Lil wayne is due for sentencing on March 2. His plea calls for a 1 year prison term in city jail. On the condition of good behavior, Lil Wayne could only have to face 8 months.
As for the postponed hearing… Defense lawyer Stacey Richman said her client was headed home to Miami for dental work scheduled for Friday. She declined to comment on the specific nature of the problem. “It is a medical situation that, like (it would for) any of us, has to be addressed,” she stated outside of court. She added that Lil Wayne would have taken care of the problem sooner, but his dentist had been out of the country.
The rapper once bragged to Jimmy Kimmel that his diamond encrusted teeth cost him $150,000.
Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Joan Illuzzi-Orbon didn't argue with Lil Wayne’s request to push back his sentencing, saying she had spoken to the dentist.
Lil Wayne, 27, pled guilty in October to criminal possession of a weapon - admitting he illegally had a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic gun on his tour bus in July 2007. Police found the weapon when they stopped the bus after a Manhattan concert.

Well, Prejean has made news again. Over the weekend, Carrie became engaged to St. Louis Rams quarterback Kyle Boller, Carrie’s mother, Francine Coppola, told Access Hollywood.
According to Francine, her 22-year-old daughter described the proposal as something right from the movies. Kyle, 28, presented Carrie with a gorgeous 5 carat diamond engagement ring.
The pair celebrated their engagement at a Super Bowl party with friends and family in Solana Beach. Carrie is from San Diego and Kyle grew up in Southern California.
According to Francine, Carrie is “very excited” about the engagement. The couple has not yet chosen a date to exchange wedding rings.
Carrie was previously involved with swimmer Michael Phelps, and Kyle once dated actress Tara Reid.

To be in that position where maybe a lot of people were picking against us, we liked the spot we were in”. And a great spot it was. Overcoming the power of the Colts and a first-quarter deficit, they won the game 31-17, earning themselves their first Super Bowl title, helping to heal a city still reeling from Hurricane Katrina, and forever allowing Saints fans to keep the paper bags off their heads. Sun, February 7th 2010, 07:53 EST | | With Simon Cowell officially set to leave American Idol at the end of this season, producers are looking to replace him with someone worthwhile, someone like Howard Stern – the self-professed “King of All Media.”
According to an insider, producers of American Idol say Stern is their first choice to replace Cowell. They approached Howard after he repeatedly mentioned on-air that his exclusive contract with Sirius XM Radio expires next January and that he was open to potential offers.
Cowell was paid $50 million a year. A source connected to American Idol said “It's one of the few shows that could compete with Stern's $100 million-a-year Sirius contract, and 'Idol' bosses think he'd be even nastier than Simon. They know he would be great TV and would clash with the other judges such as Ellen DeGeneres and the contestants. 'Idol' will do what it takes to sign him.”
However, according to a different source, Howard Stern isn’t quite ready to make the leap: “Despite what he's been saying on-air, Howard isn't ready to leave radio and would like to stay on at Sirius. We believe this is a ploy to make Sirius pay up and keep him on his huge contract. But if Sirius can't pay him the money he wants, he may negotiate to film 'Idol' on the side.”

Thu, February 4th 2010, 12:40 EST | | Well, if this story doesn’t break your heart, yours is probably made of stone. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Madonna and her boyfriend, model Jesus Luz, have broken up. Looks like the grossly mismatched pair won’t be exchanging wedding rings after all.
Madonna and Jesus started dating a little over a year ago, not long after Madonna split up with Sherlock Holes director Guy Richie.
According to reports, it was the 23-year-old Jesus who instigated the break-up with 51-year-old Madonna because they didn’t have enough common interests. Although, one interest they both shared was a love for Kabballah.
Jesus recently told Interview Magazine how he came to be known as Jesus: “My father [gave me] my name because he always admired Jesus Christ as the most philosophical mind of all time. So, when he named me, in his heart and his head, he made a deal, like, ‘I’m going to name you Jesus so everything good in life is going to come to you because they’re going to make the homage to Jesus.’ It’s a very special name. My name is ‘Luz,’ too, which means ‘light.’ So I feel like if I have this name that’s so special, I should attract good energy.”
Despite the break-up, Madonna is still investing $1 million into Brazilian coconut water, which she was introduced to by Jesus. According to US reports, Madonna takes the water everywhere she goes, drinking copious amounts after her challenging workouts. It is claimed that the water is a ‘fountain of youth’ that can ‘turn back the clocks’.
But Madonna isn’t the only one investing in this supposedly magical elixir. Demi Moore and Matthew McConaughey are also reportedly said to be investors in the Vita Coco.
