Last night’s World Series Game 6 brought to a close the hopes of the Philadelphia Phillies to earn two championship titles in a row. When the New York Yankees Closer Mariano Rivera pitched the final out of the game, he gave his team their 27th World Series win, and a fifth Championship ring for himself, Derek Jeter, Andy Pettitte and Jorge Posada.
Although the players will not receive their rings until a ceremony at the beginning of the 2010 season, they still have a trophy to hoist in the air, parties to attend, and a parade the likes of which only New York City can give them after waiting 9 years to become champions again. The rings will be, undoubtedly, worth waiting for. The Yankees 2000 World Series ring weighs more than an ounce, features 22 diamonds and 34.5 grams of gold. It is so large that it has three subway cars—representing the ‘Subway Series’ victory over the Mets and three consecutive championships—etched above the fa?ade of Yankee Stadium. The value of the ring is relative, since it has an ‘intrinsic value’ based on what it represents. After the 2000 win, a memorabilia dealer paid $18,000 for the ring of a Yankee executive, and Dick Williams, consultant to the team at the time, sold his ring at auction for $34,787.
An Atlanta stripper recently confessed to having a one-night stand with actor Josh Duhamel. The problem? Duhamel exchanged wedding rings with Fergie of The Black Eyed Peas in January of this year.
Both Duhamel and Fergie have denied the allegation wholeheartedly. “This is not the first nor will it be the last time that a stripper was paid a large amount of money to sell a false story about a celebrity,” says Duhamel's rep. “This story is absolutely ridiculous.” A rep for Fergie adds: “These allegations are nonsense.”
In a recent interview, stripper Nicole Forrester says she had sex with Duhamel in an Atlanta hotel shortly after he came into the Tattletale club, her place of employment. Forrester claims she has text messages and a successful polygraph test to confirm her story.
“We did hook up and had lots of sex and we had a really, really good time,” Forrester told Atlanta radio station Q100's ‘Bert Show’ this Monday.
Forrester sold her story to the National Enquirer for more than $20,000. She now claims she regrets the decision because her daughter, 10, and son, 13, had no idea she was a stripper until she came forward.
Actor Mel Gibson and his girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva recently welcomed the birth of their first child, Lucia Gibson, on Friday at a hospital in Los Angeles. The pair has not yet exchanged wedding rings, and it is unclear whether they plan to in the future.
The 53-year-old Oscar-winner and star of ‘Braveheart’ is a father for the eighth time. He has seven children with his ex-wife, Robyn. Last April she petitioned for divorce from the actor, citing irreconcilable differences. They were married for 28 years.
Grigorieva is a 39-year-old Russian musician. She and Gibson met while filming “Edge of Reason.”
In related news, a California judge recently expunged Gibson’s drunk-driving conviction from his infamous 2006 arrest.
Mel successfully completed his court-ordered, three-year probation. He also paid $1,600 in fines. As a first-time offender, he was eligible to have his conviction erased after fulfilling his probation.
Crystal meth is typically associated with depravity and poverty; a low-class drug, if you will. So it comes as a startling surprise that Andre Agassi, the eight-time Grand Slam champion, recently admitted to using the drug for “a year or so.”
In his upcoming autobiography, entitled ‘Open’, Agassi admits he used crystal meth in 1997 and failed a drug test. The results were tossed out because he lied and said he “unwittingly” took the substance.
“If you're going to tell your story, you owe it to yourself to tell it honestly,” Agassi told PEOPLE magazine. “Especially if you're going to call it 'Open,'”
Agassi exchanged wedding rings with actress Brooke Shields in 1997. According to excerpts for his forthcoming memoir, he became jealous over Shields’ appearance on ‘Friends’. He also revealed that Brooke put a photo of Steffi Graf on the fridge to motivate herself to get in better for the wedding. Ironically, Agassi wed Graff in 2001.
Agassi divulges how he and Shields begin dating shortly after Christmas 1993 and connected by sharing their experiences with pushy parents. He also reveals that he stormed off the set of “Friends,” becoming jealous when Shields had to lick actor Matt LeBlanc's hand. “Have some more hand. I'm out of here,” wrote Agassi.
As if Jay-Z didn’t have enough on his plate, now the hip-hop legend wants to become a wedding DJ. The incomparable rapper said he would put on a lavish show, complete with video screens and back up dancers. “I'm gonna have video behind me and dancers. I'm gonna have people just go out and pour champagne when I get to a certain song. I'm going to make a whole show of this thing,” he said.
The 39-year-old entrepreneur exchanged wedding rings with diva Beyonce Knowles, 28, in April 2008.
Jay-Z went on to say that he would put on a show using a pre-recorded set-list, rather than using professional DJing skills. “I've got a whole plan. I'm gonna get me a little Serato set, some DJ software. I'm gonna work on that for six months, then I'm gonna find out which DJ makes the most and charge double and tour, do bar mitzvahs, weddings,” he boasted.
Although having Jay-Z DJ your event won’t be cheap, it will be well worth it. He advises people to book him early to get a better price. “If you want to book me, book me early, because the prices will be a little better because when I get good, I'm really going to go for it.”
On Wednesday, Israel rejected accusations by a U.N. panel claiming that it is involved in the illegal export and sale of ‘blood diamonds’ from the Ivory Coast.
Shmuel Mordechai, Israel’s Diamond Controller, said he was shocked by the “false accusations” printed in a report to the U.N. Security Council on international compliance with U.N. sanctions imposed on the Ivory Coast.
The panel also named the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Guinea and Liberia as some of the countries that needed to increase efforts to enforce a four-year-old U.N. embargo on buying rough diamonds mined in the Ivory Coast.
“Israel has never dealt in diamond trade with the Ivory Coast,” Mordechai said in a statement. “We are shocked by these false accusations and completely refute them.”
Today the Security Council is expected to renew embargoes on arms and rough diamond sales and other sanctions on the Ivory Coast for another year.
The Ivory Coast report urges Israel to “investigate fully the possible involvement of Israeli nationals and companies in the illegal export of Ivorian rough diamonds.”
On the Monday night episode of Jon & Kate Plus 8, Kate Gosselin answered “any and all reasonable questions” directed at her. As usual, she had quite a lot to say. Here’s a taste:
Kate rejected allegations that she and Jon staged their renewal vows in Hawaii. In regards to exchanging wedding rings with someone in the future, Kate left the door open, but said it would be a difficult prospect. “To be honest, I don't know. I really don't want to be married again, but I don't want to be alone. The alone-ness is really alone.”
She also claimed her kids were happy and okay to be on the show. “They're not suffering from this,” she said. “The fact that they have these different experiences they need to handle is only going to help them in life.”
She also said she wants to stay in the limelight after her shows goes off the air: “I've done enough years on TV that I feel like it's a normal, comfortable, natural place to be,” she said. “I'd love to be in a movie at some point, I'd love to be the voice of a cartoon character in a movie for my kids. I think that would be fun.”
This past Sunday, Mad Men star Elisabeth Moss exchanged wedding rings with Saturday Night Live funny man Fred Armisen at The Foundry in Long Island City, New York. The ceremony took place in front of friends and family.
In August, the couple mentioned that they wanted a simple, “medium-sized” wedding, and that Moss would be wearing a Claire Pettibone dress. “It was actually the only and first designer I ever wanted,” explained Moss. “I just thought [the dresses] were really beautiful.”
The pair has been engaged since January. It is the first marriage for Moss, 27, and the second marriage for Armisen, 42.
Armisen is best know for portraying President Barack Obama on Saturday Night Live, and Moss is famous for her role as Peggy Olson on AMC’s hit drama, Mad Men, as well as having played first daughter Zoey Bartlet on the NBC television series The West Wing.
Whoopi Goldberg first broke news of their nuptials on The View on Monday morning.
Everybody knows that diamonds are a girl’s best friend. And everybody knows that Victoria’s Secret is a guy’s best friend. So, it only makes sense to combine friends and make everyone happy. This season, Victoria’s Secret is unveiling a $3 million fantasy bra, and it features quite an impressive collection of diamonds.
The Fantasy Bra has nearly 2,500 diamonds of various colors, including a huge 16-carat heart-shaped diamond in the middle. The diamonds are colored white, cognac and champagne. The bra, which boasts 150 carats, was designed exclusively for Victoria's Secret by Italian jeweler Damiani and manufactured in Valenza, Italy. It can be worn five ways, including strapless, halter, crossback, one-strap or classic.
Every year Victoria’s Secret includes a novelty bra as part of its fall fashion. Last year’s model was worth $5 million. The 2003 model, which was worth $8 million, was famously worn and broken by Heidi Klum on the Jay Leno Show. However, because the recession, this year’s bra is worth a “mere” $3 million.
Pop stars shouldn’t believe that they actually have a chance at being legitimate actors or else they’ll only taste disappointment. Just ask Ashlee Simpson-Wentz if you need evidence. Jessica Simpson’s younger sister is officially leaving ‘Melrose Place’ after her short acting stint.
According to ‘Entertainment Weekly’, Ashlee and her co-star Colin Egglesfield have been cut from the CW drama.
According to executive producer Todd Slavkin, the decision to cut the two actors is part of “the original plan going into the development of the show. We felt that once the murder mystery [involving their characters] was resolved, the tone of the show was going to shift … and [Simpson-Wentz's] character would move on.”
In a statement released after the announcement, Simpson-Wentz said, “Having the chance to play Violet on Melrose Place has been a thrill. Although I always knew her story would come to a final, insanely unpredictable end, playing a creepy, unstable character was something I always wanted to do, so I jumped at the chance. Thanks to the CW and the entire cast and crew of Melrose Place for allowing me this opportunity.”
Simpson-Wentz and Egglesfield took the news “like professionals,” according to Slavkin. “Because they knew ahead of time [that leaving was a possibility], it wasn’t a complete shock.”
