GlossaryGirdleThe narrow section of a finished gem that forms the boundary between the crown and pavilion. Is also considered the thickest part of a diamond. Think of the girdle as the outer rim or edge that extends the entire way around the diamond. If your looking to purchase a round brilliant diamond, than it is recommended that you select a diamond with a girdle that falls between thin-slightly thick. If it’s a fancy shape diamond that you prefer, than a girdle that falls between thin-thick is acceptable. Diamonds that have girdle ratings of “extremely thin” or “extremely thick” should be taken into consideration to ensure that there are no quality issues with the diamond.
